Streets: Nychos (Denmark)

Earlier this month (June 1-8), the Viborg International Billboard Painting Festival kicked things off with new work from Nychos. The Vienna-based street muralist brought his cartoonish anatomical aesthetic to Denmark and painted a series of works on billboards & walls, ranging from painterly techniques to graffiti. Other artists scheduled to make appearances include Blade, John Howard, Horphe, Ken Sortais, Christian Dinesen, and Anders Reventlov Larsen. Openings: “Otherworld” Group Show @ Roq la Rue

Roq la Rue recently employed the help of many amazing artists to fill the walls for their Otherworld group show. The title of the show was also the theme, with the artists interpreting “otherworld” however they saw fit. With a roster this good, one month just wouldn’t be enough, so the show will be on display until July 27th. Preview: Paul Wackers – “Almost Somewhere” @ Narwhal Projects

After a recent showing in Los Angeles (covered), Paul Wackers will be taking his contemporary still life paintings up north for an exhibition at Narwhal Projects, opening on June 13th. Almost Somewhere will be the Brooklyn-based artist’s first showcase at the Toronto gallery and will continue his representations of domestic collections of objects and plants in his unique way. Releases: AJ Fosik – “Shining Deathless” Print

Sculptor AJ Fosik (see our studio visit here) is known for his wood-bashing skills, but in a slight departure from his more recent medium of choice, he is due to release a limited print this week. Shining Deathless bridges the gap between his sculpture and the print medium by the use of relief on this embossed, hand finished print (see the hand-carved brass used in the process below). American artist Maya Hayuk recently visited Cologne, Germany where she took part in its CityLeaks Urban Art Festival. It is the second time that the event has been organized there this year. Brazilian artist Herbert Baglione recently visited Mexico City for the opening of his newest solo show “Obituary” @ Fifty24Mx gallery. The new show includes new paintings and installations by the artist. It is part of his continuing body of work he started at Contemporary Art Museum of Bogota in August of 2012, strongly inspired by death, human imperfection, and spiritual rebirth.
