For her second showcase with V1 which opened recently in Copenhagen, Alicia McCarthy created a fresh body of work featuring her iconic waving patterns and rainbow-like creations. Painted mostly on found and repurposed objects or faded paper sheets, these hypnotic creations are done using a variety of uncommon art techniques. Often leaving an obvious or hidden personal mark or note, the Mission School stalwart makes unorthodox, personal pieces that expresses her raw urge to create as it relates to her experiences. On September 8th, Soey Milk’s second solo show (see 2015) with Corey Helford Gallery opens in Los Angeles. Collectively entitled Inflorescence, the vibrant new body of work features over 20 paintings and drawings (which served as studies for the paintings). Following the developments in an abandoned convent located about one hour outside of Barcelona, we recently decided to visit the ongoing Creença (Belief) art residency. Back in Danish capital after two years when he last exhibited his work alongside Todd James (covered), Barry Mcgee recently opened his debut solo with Eighteen gallery. Showing for the first time in this new Copenhagen space, the legendary artist constructed an immersive installation that took over the entire gallery, floor to ceiling, entrance door to emergency exit. From September 7-9, YESNIK and Jaybo will be holding a joint popup exhibition in Los Angeles at F-U (For the Unconventional). The two artists have collaborated in the past before (see Amsterdam 2017), sharing a background in 80s and 90s underground street culture and design and now taking similar artistic paths towards an increasingly abstract aesthetic. Currently with Galerie Zink in Hamburg (Barlach Halle K), Javier Calleja has a show on view entitled Fake is the future. Including canvases, works on paper and mural paintings from the Spanish artist, the solo features cartoonish portraiture certainly inspired from his time working under the tutelage of Yoshitomo Nara. Upfest returned to celebrate its 10th anniversary recently with approximately 350 artists from across the globe leaving their mark on the streets of Bristol.
