MOCA Presents “Rebel” @ 941 N. Highland Avenue

This past weekend, MOCA presented Rebel, an exhibition conceived by James Franco and also including Douglas Gordon, Harmony Korine, Damon McCarthy, Paul McCarthy, Terry Richardson, Ed Ruscha, and Aaron Young. Last weekend, deep in the heart of Los Angeles, the Known Gallery unveiled the latest work from the locally based duo, Dabs Myla. Break Night Lovers featured drawings, paintings, art objects, and a whimsical installation mimicking the inside of house complete with a fridge, painted stove, TV, table, chairs, and more. Releases: KAWS – “Paper Smile” Print

Although the attention of KAWS fans is focused on Asia right now as the NY-based artist has landed in Hong Kong in preparation for his solo at Galerie Perrotin on the 15th, they are reminded that he still has a ongoing exhibition at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta (covered). Openings: Ryan McGinley – “Animals” @ Team Gallery NY

Last week, photographer Ryan McGinley opened shows simultaneously at Team Gallery’s two New York locations entitled Animals & Grids. We will focus first on the showing on Grand Street where McGinley continued his portraiture featuring nude models interacting with live animals. The artist visited various sanctuaries, zoos, and rescue establishments across the United States, erecting a mobile studio where he collaborated with animal trainers to pose subjects (animal and humans) in bizarrely seductive and symbiotic compositions.
