MOCA Presents “Rebel” @ 941 N. Highland Avenue

This past weekend, MOCA presented Rebel, an exhibition conceived by James Franco and also including Douglas Gordon, Harmony Korine, Damon McCarthy, Paul McCarthy, Terry Richardson, Ed Ruscha, and Aaron Young. Showing at the JF Chen design space, the group effort is a deconstruction and reinterpretation of the legendary 1955 film Rebel Without A Cause which starred James Dean and Natalie Wood. In anticipation for this year’s Art Hong Kong, we bring you a special studio visit to Pace Print’s Manhattan studios. For the fair opening on the 17th, Pace will be unveiling a special edition woodcut print created in collaboration with Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Last weekend, deep in the heart of Los Angeles, the Known Gallery unveiled the latest work from the locally based duo, Dabs Myla. Break Night Lovers featured drawings, paintings, art objects, and a whimsical installation mimicking the inside of house complete with a fridge, painted stove, TV, table, chairs, and more. Although the attention of KAWS fans is focused on Asia right now as the NY-based artist has landed in Hong Kong in preparation for his solo at Galerie Perrotin on the 15th, they are reminded that he still has a ongoing exhibition at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta (covered). The museum will be releasing today PAPER SMILE, a 25″ x 20″ screenprint in an edition of 100. For those interested and have $1400 to spend, you should contact the museum before it sells out. […]

Openings: Ryan McGinley – “Animals” @ Team Gallery NY

Last week, photographer Ryan McGinley opened shows simultaneously at Team Gallery’s two New York locations entitled Animals & Grids. We will focus first on the showing on Grand Street where McGinley continued his portraiture featuring nude models interacting with live animals. The artist visited various sanctuaries, zoos, and rescue establishments across the United States, erecting a mobile studio where he collaborated with animal trainers to pose subjects (animal and humans) in bizarrely seductive and symbiotic compositions.
