As you must have realized from the article on our studio visit with Aakash Nihalani that we published yesterday, Armory Week is just around the corner. Running from March 8th to 11th, the preeminent New York art fair (along with satellites) will be keeping AM busy in the upcoming days. After his successful solo, Happy Deep Inside My Heart, at Lazarides’ Rathbone Place last year, Antony Micallef (interviewed) will be featured in a smaller showing at The Outsiders tomorrow night, March 8th. A Little Piece of Me will comprise of ten new examples of the London-based artist’s ongoing Head series. AM was on hand a couple days ago as explosive Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang started his preparations for his upcoming exhibition at the Los Angeles MOCA set to open on April 8th. Last week in spectacular fashion, the new exhibition from Conor Harrington (interviewed) opened at Lazarides Gallery’s flagship Rathbone Place location in London. The sold out show, Dead Meat, included the impressive works we previewed during our studio visit with the UK-based painter last month, a total of 8 large-scale canvases and 24 small studies or “Morning Glories” as he has fondly titled them. Hey ninjas… if you follow the NBA, you’re probably aware of the sensation known as Jeremy Lin, the Taiwanese American basketball phenom who has inspired excitement (aka Linsanity) among legions of fans around the world. Streets: Vhils (Shanghai)

As indicated in some teaser shots of Vhils’ street work when he first got to China as well as a preview video posted here, the Portuguese artist has been hard at work preparing for his showing at the 18 Gallery (presented by Magda Danysz) opening March 31st. Last week, AM caught the opening night for the unveiling of Tomokazu Matusyama’s (featured) exclusive snow globe (available here) created with The Standard Hotel. Continuing a long line of quality artist collaborations with artists like Ryan McGinness, KAWS, and Jose Parla, this unique project takes Matsu’s iconic Running Deep series of paintings and miniaturizes them into unique sculptures. Last Thursday night, Todd James (aka REAS) unveiled a new body of works at New York’s Gering & Lopez. Entitled King of the Wild Frontier, this series takes another step forward from his previous showing with the gallery. Leaving snow storms and presidential elections delirium in France, the French graffiti crew Da Mental Vaporz decided to head down under to Melbourne for a spectacular show at Rtist Gallery.
