Preview / Installation: Interesni Kazki – “Objects of the Universe” @ Avantgarden

Coming up on Thursday night, September 29th, in Milan, street sensations Interesni Kazki will be opening their solo show at AvantGarden. The Ukrainian duo’s work is colorful and surreal with almost a Dali-esque feel to it. Appropriately, their exhibition is entitled Objects of the Universe as their paintings are typically filled with disparate mundane items arranged in inventive compositions. Also, interesting will be how their work (see Russia, Ibiza, Portugal, and Slovakia) translates indoors although they will be working on some wall murals as well. […]

It looks like Dave White, who showed in Art Copenhagen last year (covered), decided to give his fans in Denmark a proper gallery show. The new body of work for Americana currently on at Galleri Jules Julian explores some of the iconography particular to the US, mainly cowboys and Indians, all painted in the loose style White has been using recently. As we previewed a few days back, PULSE is getting ready for its big reveal in Los Angeles next weekend, running from September 30 to October 3. Perhaps influenced by the pop-up restaurant The Tree House (see video above) in Frankfurt for which he presumably curated the artwork for, Lazarides will be bringing the PRET A DINER concept in for his newest project in London. AM recently caught the opening of Richard Hambleton’s A Retrospective at Phillips de Pury’s Park Avenue gallery space. The two floor location showcased a survey of Richard’s long history of working in both street and fine art with pieces dating back to 1982 on display including his classic shadow silhouettes to his more recent contemporary landscapes that he names “beautiful paintings.” Of course, much like the last opening hosted by Valmorbida, the fashion week event drew a mix of New York’s elite to catch this […]

Openings: “Reflections” @ fordPROJECT

Opening a couple weeks ago at Midtown Manhattan’s fordPROJECT was Reflections, a exhibition of three contemporary Japanese painters curated by fordPROJECT’s director Rachel Vancelette in collaboration with Tokyo’s Tomio Koyama Gallery. The highlight of the show for us was Hideaki Kawashima, who presented a mix of his newer style, more realistic paintings and his older style, more atmospheric ones, including a series of simple portraits that perfectly addressed the theme of reflection. The last time we featured Marco Mazzoni, he was getting ready for his show in his home city of Milan at the Arsprima Gallery. Fans of the Italian painter will be happy to hear that his next solo is coming up in a couple months, this time in Copenhagen at Gallery B15.
