Giveaway / Releases: Kai & Sunny ‘Ghost Flower’ Screenprint

Kai & Sunny have just released a new screen-print entitled Ghost Flower as featured as a large format image at their recent London exhibition at StolenSpace, The Flower Show. We’re pretty enthralled by their dynamic imagery and thought that this image was one of the stand-outs of the show. The large format edition sold out at the exhibition, but now this smaller and more manageable edition can be purchased at Kai & Sunny’s website. Or, you may want to try your luck on our giveaway. […]

Openings: Brett Amory – “White Light” @ Anno Domini

Bay Area-based Brett Amory (interviewed) unveiled his latest paintings in his Waiting series for his exhibition, White Light at Anno Domini in San Jose, CA (previewed) on Saturday night. The Waiting series features anonymous snapshots in an urban environment, which is a commentary on an individuals’ seemingly impossible task of trying to find existence in society in which they are so detached. The work in White Light aims to express a sense of freedom and that we are able to choose whether we exist through […]

Opening this Thursday, September 8th, at Chelsea’s Joshua Liner Gallery is East Weets Mest, the second full-gallery solo exhibition by Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) Recently, we were lucky enough to have the chance to visit Matsu’s studio as he was finishing preparing for the show, and we were blown-away by what we saw. Matsu has been hard at work on an impressive collection for this show, including an amazing large-scale painting and two intricate sculptures. And from his description of the installation he’s planning, East Weets […]

Streets: “______ capitalism?” (Norway)

Artists have been hard at work the past week getting up in Norway for the ______ capitalism? event put on by the NHH Norwegian School of Economics in close collaboration with the Nuart Festival. If you remember back in July, Eine was the first to paint a piece for the project, but others like M-City, Escif, Dolk, and Hyuro have joined in the fun to challenge the leading business school’s ideological foundations directly on their walls. The unlikely pairing of the street artists with the school […]

Openings: Handiedan, Craww, Charmaine Olivia & Tatiana Suarez @ Spoke Art

Last Thursday evening, Spoke Art hosted the opening of an exhibition featuring 4 artists from different parts of the globe: Handiedan (Amsterdam), Craww (UK), Charmaine Olivia (San Francisco) and Tatiana Suarez(New York). Although each of the artists’ techniques and styles vary greatly, it is very interesting to see how they each interpret the common subject matter of the female form. To coincide with the opening of the show, Spoke Art also released a new giclee from each of the artists (which were also on display […]

Openings: Korin Faught & Joey Remmers – “Voices of the Lake” & “Sheep’s Clothing” @ Corey Helford Gallery

After visiting Korin Faught’s studio a few days ago (here), we finally got to see the unveiling of her new work on the walls of Corey Helford Gallery. Titled Voices of the Lake, Faught continues to use the theme of reflections and dual imagery in her paintings. This time however, her work features water as a visual motif to explore the hidden and elusive qualities of her subjects. The dark and white colors draping against wooden canvas and the smallest of details on any given […]

Preview: Alex Lukas @ Guerrero Gallery

Alex Lukas continues to delight us here at AM with each series of his distressed cityscapes, and judging by the work in his upcoming untitled solo exhibition at San Francisco’s Guerrero Gallery, he continues to go from strength to strength. Lukas’ representations of global mortality are realised in a series of paintings showing a graffiti’d and desolate landscape in a post-human / post apocalyptic context. It is his re-appropriated book pages and commercial posters that really shine for us though. Culling whole page images from […]

Releases: Patrick Martinez – “Word Play” Limited Edition Neon Sign

We have featured Patrick Martinez and his neon signage before here on AM, especially the coverage of his solo show Hustlemania at Known Gallery back in March. This particular aspect of his work typically is influenced by hip hop phraseology leading a transformation of this common advertising motif into something completely different. Fans will now be able to add one of these signs affordably to their collection as Patrick is releasing a unique limited edition. WORD PLAY will come in a run of 20, sized at […]
