This weekend, Corey Helford Gallery is showing Blurring The Lines, a throwback to the 80s where graffiti was not looked yet looked upon as art in the public eye. The exhibiton will feature three old school masters – Crash, Freedom and RISK. Curated by our friend Roger Gastman (co-curator of the Art In The Streets Exhibition), this gives us a close up look at the fine artwork of the three artists who were also featured in the MOCA show. This month sees Toronto based artist Jacub Gagnon bring his surrealist still life paintings to Los Angeles for his solo exhibition entitled Elements & Oddities. The exhibition opens at Thinkspace on Saturday April 30th, and also features Yosuke Ueno. Lowbrow pop master David MacDowell (interviewed) returns the Culver City showspace also in the project room space with Lowbrow Love Letter. Teaser: “The Enchanted Forest” @ Strychnin Gallery (Berlin)

Coming up next month on May 13th, the Strychnin Gallery in Berlin will be presenting The Enchanted Forest. The group show, which features forest inspired imagery and partially benefits the WWF, was apparently put on in concordance with the United Nation’s International Year of Forests. May will be a month of multiple Ryan McGinness shows in Los Angeles, one of which will be held at the PRISM gallery on Sunset. Trophies, a new solo from the NY-based artist at the impressive space, will open on May 26th and feature new gold sculptures from his Women series (covered in Miami and New York). We only caught of glimpse of noted “venture philanthropist” Eli Broad at the Art in the Streets opening a couple weeks ago, but apparently Morley Safer was able to spend more time time with him for the latest segment of 60 Minutes. The engaging interview touched on many topics including the self-made billionaire’s charitable goals and philosphies, his art collection, and the love-hate relationship the art community has with him.
