Broad Musuem Design Revealed

The much talked about Broad Museum finally has an architectural design. This honeycombed building with a projected cost of $130 million is the brainchild of Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, a New York-based firm, and will feature 114,000 square feet of space spread over three stories. We will be definitely be looking forward to checking this and Eli Broad’s collection out when it opens in downtown LA. Via La Times.

Update: James Jean – “Rebus” @ Martha Otero

We now have some more info to share with you after first bringing you news of a Los Angeles exhibition from James Jean (interviewed) the other day. Openings: Jean Labourdette (Turf One) – “The Rising” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Opening a several weeks ago alongside SHAG (covered) at Jonathan Levine Gallery was Jean Labourdette (Turf One). The self taught French-Canadian artist created a great show he named “The Rising”. Utilizing numerous found objects on which he painted on, Jean worked to create interactive pieces for the viewers. What we enjoyed in particular were the realistic subjects which which were effortlessly integrated into their respective backdrops. Check out the full show after the jump.

Teaser: “In The Nursery” @ Corey Helford Gallery

It looks like Ray Caesar will be part of a group of artists participating in the upcoming “In The Nursery” group show at Corey Helford Gallery. All the work in the show, like this exquisite piece (seen above) from the master of the digital arts, will focus on the themes of childhood, birth, and nursery art. Video: Jesse Hazelip – “The Belle of the Brawl”

Jesse Hazelip (studio visit here), has a new show opening up next week at the San Francisco gallery, 941 Geary.  Following his massive installation last year at White Walls, Hazelip looks to go even bigger and better in the larger museum-quality space as judged by Colin Day’s beautiful video above.

Video: Ai Weiwei – “Sunflower Seeds” @ Tate Modern

We wanted to share this documentary we recently watched put out by the Tate Modern on Ai Weiwei’s Sunflower Seeds installation (covered). Hosted at the Turbine Hall and part of the Unilever Series of commissions for the museum, the impressive project from the Chinese artist and dissident took two and half years to complete and involved over 1600 artisans handcrafting 100 million ceramic seeds. Teaser: James Jean – Solo Exhibition @ Martha Otero
