Greg Lamarche brings his distinct collage works to Toronto this month for his solo show “Cut To The Chase” with Show & Tell Gallery (showing alongside Justin Green) opening on April 9th. Showing: Mark Schoening – “Cloudcookooland” @ Blythe Projects

Los Angeles gallery, Blythe Projects, currently holding it’s inaugural Culver City show, featured an artist that drew AM’s attention, whose work we’ve actually been enjoying for the last year or so. “Cloudcookooland” is the first solo show in LA for Mark Schoening (featured on this month’s cover of American Contemporary Art magazine) since he moved to the city from New York last year. Schoening’s explosive work captures frozen moments in time, and this new show is inspired & informed by his recent relocation. He describes […]

Our friend Oliver Vernon is set to open a new group of works at Denver’s David B Smith Gallery. This latest series of works takes the viewer on another psychedelic journey through Oli’s various abstract dimensions, colors and shapes. Some last minute notice on our part, but a definite must see as the show opens tonight. Check out our preview of this rad show after the jump.

Preview: Kris Kuksi – “Meticulous Engagements” @ Shooting Gallery

Kris Kuksi (covered) sent us some teaser images of two of the pieces he’ll have in his upcoming show with sculptor Christy Langer (previewed). Kris, who’s known to work furiously till the last minute making modifications to his elaborate and ornate assemblages, very well may have changed the pieces you see here by the time this goes to press; however, if this is any indication of what to expect from the artist, we’re rather excited to say the least. “Meticulous Engagements” will mark the two […]

Openings: Lola – “Ipsum Factum” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Lola’s newest solo, “Ipsum Factum”, opened recently at the Corey Helford Gallery in the heart of the Culver City art district. Bringing to fruition pieces that we saw her working on during our studio visit a while back, Lola’s attention to detail was most impressive. From the delicate hands and feet of the denizens of her world, to the tiny planes, to the miniature animals and insects, to the ever present origami – attendees could see that she put her all into this new body […]

Openings: sPy – “Urbana” @ SC Gallery – Bilbao, Spain

Urban interventionist sPy opened his debut solo show last week in his home country of Spain. Entitled “Urbana”, the show features a collection of photographs chronicling the pranksters recent works in Europe and New York City. Dubbed the “Spanish Banksy” by the media, sPy’s work focuses on alterations of the urban landscape, a rarity in that he refrains from using the traditional means and methods of graffiti/street art ie: stencils, wheatpastes or aerosol. Simultaneously whimsical and subversive, sPy’s situational art seems to be pushing the […]

The duo of Dabs Myla have returned temporarily to their home country of Australia after a year long stay in Los Angeles. Though they’ll only be gone for a month, the ambitious duo have been keeping their noses to the grindstone in the land down under with a new mural, solo show and a book release to keep them busy. Tonight saw the opening of their comeback show, “Hollywood and Western” at Per Square Metre, which featured a new body of work as well as […]

Preview: Marco Zamora & Derek Albeck – “The Fool” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

The work of Los Angeles based artist Marco Zamora caught our eye recently as we noticed his show at Derek Albeck was opening soon. His imagery of urban landscapes and the people that inhabit it are done monochromatically with interspersed splashes of color, leading to a nice contrast. The show opens tonight, April 1st, at the Fecal Face Dot Gallery in SF so we look forward to seeing how this body of work turns out. Some additional preview images after the jump…
