Openings: ModArt Magazine Curated Show @ Thinkspace Gallery

Thinkspace Gallery’s current group show, “ModArt – A Celebration of 20 Issues and All That Lay Ahead,”  (previewed) curated by the team at European based ModArt Magazine opened to an excited Los Angeles crowd, but things really popped off when Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Soleil Moon Frye (who played Punky Brewster) dropped by the gallery to check out the work, specifically the front window installation by German street artist NOMAD. Besides scoping out NOMAD’s humorous caveman-like drawings and installation pieces, the trio and the rest of […]

Releases: Murakami – Inochi Figures

The Inochi figures from Takashi Murakami, that we first featured here in April when they were exhibited at Kaikai Kiki, are finally going on sale tomorrow, August 28th at honeyee.  The figures are small scale replicas of the Murakami sculpture (seen here) with production handled by Medicom. Limited to 200 of each of the five colorways, it will cost you a cool $1500 to bring “Zhang,” “Victor,” “Bob,” “David,” or “Yamamoto” home. More pics after the jump.

Signings: James Jean – “Kindling” @ Plaything Gallery

There was a special event for the launch of James Jean’s (interviewed) book “Kindling” in New Zealand earlier this month in conjunction with his participation at Semi-Permanent, the mega design conference – consisting of a presentations, exhibitions, competitions, workshops and parties. If you remember, we covered Ian Francis’ show at Sydney’s Semi-Permanent earlier this year. The signing/release event was held at Plaything Gallery and also featured works from Auckland based street artist Misery. More photos and video after the jump…

Highlights: Recommended Openings For August 27 – September 2

This Saturday’s massive “Sea No Evil”‘ charity art auction (previewed) benefits the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The auction takes place at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium (near the Mission Inn). Notable contributors include Shepard Fairey, Dave Kinsey, Anthony Lister, Dave Cooper, Jeff Soto, Greg Simkins, Glen E. Friedman, Gregory Euclide, Logan Hicks, Mars-1 and Tim Biskup. Though a drive for us living in Los Angeles, this is […]

Teaser: Camilla d’Errico “Vain Remains @ Thinkspace

“Double your pleasure, double your fun…” That’s what it looks like when we see Camilla d’Errico’s latest body of work from her upcoming show “Vain Remains.” Since we last caught up with Camilla at SDCC, she’s been heads down working hard for her upcoming exhibition at Thinkspace. Catch another little sneak peek after the jump.

Openings: Mia – “Riddles in the Dark” @ Corey Helford Gallery

AM had the chance to attend Mia’s “Riddles in the Dark” opening (previewed) at Corey Helford Gallery. Seeing that the show has only just recently been taken down, we thought it would be nice to take a look back. Mia’s latest body of work continued to impress and had noticeably evolved since the last time we saw her work. Check out all the photos of the opening after the jump.

Openings: Mode 2 – “Reality, Fantasy, And The Web” @ Lazarides (Newcastle)

Who can take a stack of hard cardboard or a cold brick wall and create a sensually hypnotic work of art? Mode 2 can. The artist known for his erotic urban techniques opened “Reality, Fantasy, And The Web” (previewed) at Lazarides last weekend. For a show that was created completely on location in the Newcastle gallery, it’s fascinating how Mode 2 was able to work with the gritty surroundings he was given and transform it into visually arresting and erotic snapshots. Check out all the images […]

Teaser: Kris Kuksi – “Beast Anthology” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

AM just saw the one of the pieces from Kris Kuksi for his upcoming solo show at Joshua Liner Gallery and wanted to share it immediately with our readers.  This piece is entitled “The Temptation of St. Anthony,” which refers to the temptations faced by Saint Anthony the Great during his times in the Egyptian desert (a common subject in art and literature – probably the two of the most well-known, for us at least, were by Hieronymus Bosch and Salvador Dalí). We can’t wait […]

FAME Festival: Ericailcane and Word to Mother (Part II)

We recently brought you news of Ericailcane (here) and Word to Mother (here) painting murals at FAME Festival (full coverage here). The artists have since stepped into the studio to create a fantastic selection of artwork. We are loving these little ceramic sculptures by Ericailcane (above). For everyone who gets excited when Erica’s anthropomorphic creatures leap into the three-dimensional, now is the time to start jumping up and down, as there look to be quite a few little monkeys running around Grottaglie. Word To Mother […]

Update/Releases: “Che” Print by Ernesto Yerena

Last month we brought you a exclusive peek into Ernesto Yerena’s “Che” project and hinted at a pending print release. Well, the wait is over because this awesome image has been made into a special hand pulled silkscreen print to be released tomorrow August 26th at Hecho Con Ganas. Last week Ernesto and Richard hand-pulled the freshly made prints at Modern Multiples (same print studio that printed Banksy’s LA prints) in preparation for the pending release. The print comes in two colorways (green & red) and is […]
