Teaser: Mars-1 @ Jonathan Levine

As you can see from the large painting in the background, Mario Martinez aka Mars-1 has some pretty amazing things planned for his upcoming show at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Tomorrow, Andrew Hem’s joint show (teased) with Stella Im Hultberg opens at Roq La Rue gallery in Seattle. His new body of work features imagery from his past experiences including the magnificent cathedrals seen on a trip to Europe as well as the emotions he witnessed in the children he has seen on his travels struggling to fit into a culture in which they are not familiar with. Openings: Takashi Murakami @ The Gagosian, London

The exhibition of Takashi Murakami’s latest work (teased) at the Gagosian’s smaller London gallery on Davies Street opened last night to an enthusiastic crowd. Arrested Motion was on hand to check out the latest from this prolific artist and leader of the Superflat movement. It turned out to be a small show that will accompany the major exhibition at Bilbao’s Guggenheim. Benefit: Street Art Awards x SHP Auction

Some interesting charity auctions are ending soon benefiting SHP (Single Homeless Project), a London-based charity working with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. If you recall, various street/urban artists donated some originals painted on records during the Street Art Awards last year, including Matt Small (above), Know Hope, SPQR, Grafter, Holly Thoburn, Rene Gagnon, Guy Denning, Case, and Dale Grimshaw.Â More images after the jump.

Openings: Muses @ Black Maria Gallery

Amy Crehore opens her solo exhibition “Dreamgirls & Ukes” at Thinkspace this Friday, 2/13 @ 7pm. Â Dan May (interviewed) was in attendance at the opening of his solo show â€œSlow Collisionâ€ this past Saturday at Copro Nason. In addition to having the pleasure of meeting and speaking with May himself, attendees were intrigued by May’s dreamlike, lush environments and delightful yet haunting humanoids and monsters. Artist and designer Kaws was featured on CBS News Sunday Morning. The segment features an in-depth interview, gives an inside look at Pharrell Williams’ amazing collection, and provides an overview of Kaws’ career, past and present. In other Kaws news, fans lucky enough to receive an invitation to Kaws’ upcoming, “The Long Way Home” show (teased) at Honor Fraser received a color variant of the Kaws head that accompanied the Bounty Hunter Kaws Kun toy. Baby Tattooville alumni Bob Dob is opening what looks to be a surf culture themed show, not surpising as he grew up in Hermosa Beach.Â The show opens Valentine’s Day at Billy Shire Fine Arts with a body of work featuring his familiar characters, birds, waves and of course, the ubiquitous and mischevious little devil – Luey.Â Take a look at some paintings from the show after the jump.
