Streets: Nuart Aberdeen 2017 (Part I)

After a couple of busy days on the streets around town, Nuart Aberdeen officially opened on the 15th of April in the Merchant Quarter with a first guided tour for the public. Releases: Jeff Koons x Louis Vuitton Collection

Last week, Jeff Koons revealed his latest high profile project – a collection he designed with Louis Vuitton. Entitled Masters, the collaboration features 51 different pieces including handbags, scarves, key chains and small leather goods, including wallets and laptop sleeves. The concept behind it all was inspired by the American artist’s Gazing Ball series of paintings from 2015 which featured reproductions of various masterpieces adorned with blue reflective spheres. Four years after his last solo show in Paris (covered), graffiti artist Bom.K is returning to Paris for a solo show entitled Effects Secondaires (Side Effects) at Galerie Itinerrance opening on April 21st. The title of the exhibition refers to the sensations we managed to grasp from an artwork after enjoying the technique and subject. Previews: Robert Williams – “SLANG Aesthetics!” @ Fort Wayne Museum of Art

The Fort Wayne Museum of Art (in association with Thinkspace Gallery) will be presenting Robert Williams’ SLANG Aesthetics! starting on April 22nd. Although there will be new works, the comprehensive exhibition follows similar showings in Los Angeles (covered), Sonoma County, and Santa Fe that also includes drawings and a series of large-scale sculptures and of course oil paintings. Last week we introduced to you The Crystal Ship festival that just took off on the streets of Ostend in Belgium. The second edition of the event produced an impressive selection of fresh public pieces, showing the consistent and recognizable curatorial efforts with very few exceptions. On May 20th, Mark Ryden (interviewed) will be opening a solo show in New York featuring artwork from the ballet (covered) he worked on with the American Ballet Theater. Entitled The Art Of Whipped Cream, the exhibition at Paul Kasmin Gallery will feature drawings, sketches and paintings made during the production of Whipped Cream. On April 22nd, Haroshi (featured) will be opening a solo show at Nanzuka in Tokyo entitled Guzo. For his first exhibition with the gallery in Shibuya, the locally-based artist has created 20 of his distinctive sculptures made from “salvaged” skate decks. After the his recent self-sponsored billboard went up near his studio in the Little Osaka area in Los Angeles, James Jean (interviewed) has announced a print release of the image. Udon II will be a time-limited edition starting 8:00 AM PDT on Monday, April 10 and ending at 7:59 AM PDT on Tuesday, April 11.
