Londoners, get ready to throw your TWIST’s up in the air. Legendary graf and street artist Barry McGee will be hitting up the UK with a new show this coming Thursday, June 30th, at Stuart Shave / Modern Art. If his fantastic installation and exhibition, Easy Tonto, held there in 2005 is any indication, fans in England who have been looking across the pond in envy at the MOCA McGee, ESPO, and REAS Street Market will be in for a treat. More views of the 2005 exhibition after […]

Preview: Brett Amory – “Dark Light” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

We last caught up with Brett Amory (interviewed) while he was in London for his show at the Lazarides-run Outsiders Gallery in January. Time goes by quick as he’s already set to open his newest solo, Dark Light, at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery on June 30th. They recently posted up some photos of Brett getting ready for the big New York show that will give you some idea of what to expect.

Preview: Takashi Murakami @ Gagosian (London)

Opening Monday, June 27th at the Gagosian in London will be a new body of work from Takashi Murakami. It’s been a while since the founder of the Superflat movement has shown in the UK, and it looks like he will be revisiting his overtly sexual sculptural works ala Miss Ko and My Lonesome Cowboy with this new piece seen above entitled 3-Meter Girl. Along with a metal penis of towering proportions, Mr Big Mushroom, and Miss Clam, a metal vagina, the show certainly promises […]

Preview: Sea No Evil 2011

Time flies!  The annual Sea No Evil benefit auction ($10 donation required at the door) is fast approaching – in fact, it’s this Saturday, June 25th. It seems the lineup and art included in show just gets better each year (see 2010 and 2009), so you will want to be at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium starting at 6pm that night as She Wants Revenge will be playing and Captain Watson from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be speaking. But more importantly for >

Previews: Faile – “Puzzle Boxes”

Encased in their own hand-painted box, up to 88 blocks combine to form one of 6 base images (one for each side of the cube). This evolution from the original Faile Box seen at their UK show shows […]

Releases: “HEROES & VILLAINS”

According to our friend Amanda Erlanson, the long awaited HEROES & VILLAINS book has finally been released. In it, photographers Tatiana Wills and Roman Cho take snapshots of many of the artists we follow here on AM. Not only are the resulting portraits technically sound, the duo were able to capture the essence of each artist – for example, Shawn Barber (featured) and his tattoos, Tiffany Bozic and her bird, or SHAG (interviewed) in a modern retro setting. We’ve seen the publication in person and were quite […]

From the advance look of one of his neon pieces above, Martinez isn’t shy about making his thoughts on the state of hip hop known. More preview images from some of the artists after the […]

Preview: Scott Radke – “Burlap” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Opening alongside Jen Lobo this Saturday night at Thinkspace, is the Ohio-based Scott Radke (interviewed). Featuring over two dozen pieces from the soulful sculptor, by far the most ever in one location, Burlap is a cant-miss show for fans of his beautifully grotesque works. As indicated by the title of the exhibition, many of these new sculptural pieces feature the incorporation of the specific fabric in the work, adding a nice new texture. More preview images courtesy of the gallery after the jump…
