Preview: Ian Francis – “Exodus” @ Lazarides Rathbone Place

It’s almost time for Ian Francis (featured) to unveil his latest show “Exodus” this week at London’s Lazarides (Rathbone Place). To say that we are looking forward to the show is an understatement. From what we’ve seen so far, the show looks to be very strong as his dream weaving style touches on pop references with subjects like reporters, ghosts, opera houses, and even Macy’s. Ian also has more surprises for this show that we’ll reveal to you with our opening night coverage. For now check […]

Arriving in the nick of time from Austin, Jeremy Fish (featured) beat the current Colorado snowstorm and is, as we speak, preparing for the opening of his second stop on the “Road Less Traveled” tour.  Luckily for AM readers, Andenken‘s owner and gallery director, Tom Horne, sent us some exclusive photos of Mr. Fish as he’s working around the clock to get the show up and ready for his Mile High friends. “The Road Less Traveled” opens tonight, March 20th in Denver. On Saturday night, March 20th, New Image Art will be hosting a new solo show from well-known graffiti artist Retna. Known for taking fashion advertisements and overlaying them with his special graffiti linework and symbology, this exhibition will bring that process into the gallery setting.  As you can see from these images sniped from Modern Multiples (featured), Retna spent some time in the LA printmaking studio with master printer Richard Duardo getting ready for this show. More after the jump…

Mark Whalen opens his latest solo show at Edwina Corlette Gallery on his home soil of Australia on Friday, March 26th (running until April 10th). Entitled “Observatory”, the show contains a range of Whalen’s oeuvre from his large scale geometric landscapes right through to his small scale character based compositions – […]

Preview: “Make It Fit” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Opening this Saturday at Bed Stuy’s vanguard Brooklynite Gallery is “Make It Fit,” a show featuring Brooklyn-based artist Specter and the German duo of Various & Gould. The theme of the exhibition is “work,” with the artists using their skill and ingenuity to transform found and discarded materials into a visual investigation of what the concept of work means to them. We anticipate that the artists will not only transform the materials, but the gallery itself, making it into an installation best experienced in person. […]
