Setup: Mark Jenkins – “Meaning is Overrated” & Aakash Nihalani – “On & Off (Often On)” @ Carmichael Gallery

It’s always interesting to see how street artists adapt their art to fit into a gallery setting, especially when they are so non-conventional (even for street art) like Mark Jenkins and Aakash Nihalani.  The duo will bring their “urban interventions” indoors tomorrow night at the Carmichael Gallery – Jenkins with “Meaning is Overrated” and Nihalani with “On & Off (Often On).” Take a look at more pics of the artists setting up after the jump…

Preview/Setup: Dan Witz – “Dark Doings” @ Carmichael Gallery

We stopped by last night at the Carmichael Gallery to take a look at how the Dan Witz show was shaping up. Entitled “Dark Doings,” Witz opted to base his show around his street work this time around as he is also known for his light infused oil paintings. The show will consist of mostly limited edition pieces (half which are placed in the streets) which also come with a photograph of the piece in it’s urban setting. As evidenced by the piece we highlighted […]

The “Giant Robot Biennale – 15 Years” exhibition is set to open tomorrow at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in the heart of Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. We are looking forward to seeing what looks to be a fantastic show with artists such as David Choe, Jeff Soto (interviewed), James Jean (interviewed), Souther Salazar, kozyndan, Rob Sato, Jack Long and many more. Preview/Setup: JR – “Women Are Heroes” (Nuit Blanche – Paris)

Here’s a little behind the scenes look into JR’s preparation for his latest project: “Women Are Heroes” which is already in progress as he “re-does” structures in Paris in his signature bold fashion. This new project which officially opens Oct 3rd will coincide with the art festival Nuit Blanche in Paris (“All Nighter” in French) – an annual cultural event where all the museums and art spaces are open during one night and artists redecorate the city. It’s amazing to see the scale that JR […]

Preview/Setup: Camille Rose Garcia – “The Hydra of Babylon” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

AM had the pleasure of stopping by Merry Karnowsky yesterday to visit with Camille Rose Garcia as she was getting ready for her show “The Hydra of Babylon.”  The gallery crew were in the early stages of preparing for Saturday’s opening as Camille showed us her exciting new body of work consisting paintings (the largest of which seen above – previewed), embellished drawings, and also prints (past and present).  There will be three new canvas giclees available in low editions at the opening, hand finished […]

Setup/Preview: The London Police – “Brothers in Arms” @ Carmichael Gallery

As you have seen in the video trailer we posted recently, The TLP (The London Police) show “Brothers in Arms” opening this Thursday looks to be an entertaining show. AM had the opportunity to stop by Carmichael Gallery last week to take a gander at what the dynamic duo were up to. We walked away impressed by their amazing linework (so perfect, it’s been mistaken for silkscreening) and more appreciative of the richer environments and growth of their work ever since Bob Gibson rejoined Chaz […]
