Teaser/Video: HelloVon – “Semblance” @ Cerasoli Gallery

HelloVon, the London artist whose work first caught our eye at the “New Utopia” show at Subliminal Projects, just sent us a time-lapse video of one of his pieces for his upcoming show at Cerasoli Gallery.  Entitled “Semblance,” his new body of work will no doubt feature and interesting mix of loose and detailed elements in each piece. We’ll have more to follow as the show draws closer but take a look at another image after the jump…

Teaser: Travis Louie – “Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Monster” @ Roq La Rue

The man seems to be everywhere. From SDCC, to attending his own as well as his fellow artists’ shows in LA to NY, to a future engagement with Baby Tattooville in October, Travis Louie’s (interviewed) is certainly one of the most well traveled and hardworking artists in the industry. His latest show, “Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Monster,” will be opening next Friday, August 21st at Roq La Rue.  We hear the works are going to be a little larger and more ambitious […]

Teaser: Edwin Ushiro – “Softly Encompassing the Womb”

Here’s a pretty sweet piece from Hawaii native Edwin Ushiro’s upcoming show opening September 12th at LeBasse Projects. Two things that stand out about Ushiro’s work are the special “look” he has to his work that is a result of a special process he uses (more on this at a later time) and his talent of storytelling – something he talks about in this a thousand stories interview. We are looking forward to seeing more “island” infused imagery and are planning more coverage of this […]

Teaser: Shawn Barber – “Tattooed Portraits: Snapshots” @ Shooting Gallery

One of the shows we are looking forward to this month is Shawn Barber’s solo at the Shooting Gallery in SF. His show, entitled “Tattooed Portraits: Snapshots,” will no doubt draw on his work experience and include honest portraits of tattooed patrons as well as tattoo artists. We love the way he transfuses a sense of motion to his paintings, like the piece seen above, and can’t wait to see what he has in store for this exhibition. Take a look at this nice interview […]

Teaser: Damien Hirst – “The Blue Paintings” @ The Wallace Collection

Damien Hirst will be exhibiting 25 new paintings (created from 2006 – 2008) at The Wallace Collection in London, opening on October 14th. It appears that Hirst is making his play at being recognized as a serious painter as all the pieces have been produced himself, without help from his cadre of assistants.  Or perhaps, he is just mindful of the times – “Hirst said that he wanted to be recognized as a ‘painter’ and acknowledged that the contemporary art market was struggling and that […]
