Previews: “Bear In Mind” Luke Chueh Custom Show @ Clutter Gallery

Tonight in New York, Clutter Gallery will be hosting a group show featuring customs from Luke Chueh (interviewed) and some of his friends utilizing blank versions of his iconic sad bear head. Releases: D*Face – “Beethoven Bust”

D*Face (interviewed) has been working on a new vinyl toy recently that takes the face of Beethoven and remixes it with his distinctive imagery. The subverted image of the famous musician and composer features the British artist’s famous wings and will retail for about $400 come June through the Japanese toy company Medicom. Recap: Gary Baseman – “Happy Toby To You” @ Time Square Hong Kong

Continuing to spread his pervasive imagery to Asia (also see Shanghai & Taipei), Gary Baseman’s (interviewed) recent project saw him celebrating his iconic Toby character’s 10th birthday in Hong Kong. Held at the busy Time Square complex in Causeway Bay, the installation (arranged by LeBasse Projects) featured a dinner party for his faithful companion as well as photo exhibition of their travels together. Releases: James Jean – TMNT Figures

Going back to his comic book roots, James Jean (interviewed) revealed a project over the weekend at New York Comic Con that he has been working on with Good Smile. The Japanese manufacturer of hobby products is teaming up with Nickelodeon and Jean to create new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures based on his illustrations. Pre-orders will start up in November beginning with Leonardo, with the remaining three set to be released in next year. Via Hypebeast. Discuss James Jean here.

Previews: Josh Keyes – “The Hermit” & “Migratory Soul” Figures

After releasing his first sculptural edition last year, Josh Keyes (interviewed) is already working on another two to the delight of his collectors. Based off two of his complimentary paintings The Hermit & Migratory Soul, the two figures are already are in their protoype form. If you remember, these two images were also released through Tiny Showcase as prints earlier this year (covered). Discuss Josh Keyes here.

Releases: Joe Ledbetter – “Fire-Cat” Figure

Those who have been in the vinyl art toy game for a while will no doubt remember Joe Ledbetter’s original Fire-Cat figure, one of his iconic characters. The Los Angeles-based artist has now decided to release an updated version of the toy – producing, funding and designing this project himself. Billed as his first independent vinyl toy, the edition will be limited to 400, stand almost 11 inches tall (one of his largest figures to date), and cost $99. Releases: Snoopy Ceramic (KAWS Version)

Tomorrow at noon (Octeber 22nd Eastern time), KAWS will be releasing something for his fans out there to celebrate Halloween. Reprising his collaboration with the popular Snoopy (see 2011), the ceramic jar will be available for approximately $132 on Kawsone. Also, for all those KAWS heads out there, remember the street turned contemporary artist will be participating in another holiday next month in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with a 40-foot-long balloon of his companion character. Upcoming: “Giant Robot Biennale 3” @ Japanese American National Museum

Next Saturday night (September 23), the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles will be presenting Giant Robot Biennale 3, its third show (see 2009) in conjunction with Eric Nakamura (interviewed), the founder of Asian American pop culture purveyor Giant Robot. This year’s exhibition highlights the works of emerging artists Rob Sato, Deth P. Releases: Parra x Kidrobot – “Pierced” Figure

On June 7th, Kidrobot will be releasing (in-store and online) a new figure from Dutch artist Parra entitled Pierced. The 10-inch vinyl sculpture is inspired by the melodramatic cover art of romance novels and based on imagery from his original silkscreen artwork. The entwined figures which demonstrate the simultaneous pain and pleasure that many experience while in love will set collectors back $150 and will be limited to an edition of 300. Via mashKULTURE.
