The annual gathering of creative minds has become one of the premier art events on the island. Alter Street recently profiled artist Jim Houser in his studio and at the gallery for their series of videos shot and edited by OSBX FILMS. In it, the Philadelphia-based artist talks about the his process, visual language, use of the red and blue color, the ideas behind his installation, the city he works in, and more. The prolific Baltimore and Brooklyn-based Gaia currently has big installation showing at the Rice University Art Gallery. For this project, the young artist did a series of interviews with people working at the university as well as gathered some information about the history of Houston. Through this research, he created his impression of “Houston’s sprawling urban landscape and increasingly international demographic,” and turned it into reality at the university gallery. Dave Cooper x Johnny Ryan – “Pig Goat Banana Cricket” TV Series

The Canada-based Dave Cooper, who we last saw during a New York solo show, recently made the trip to Los Angeles to do more work on his recently green-lighted animated series with Nickelodeon. Pig Goat Banana Cricket was developed with Cooper in charge of art direction with Johnny Ryan writing for the children’s network, who have ordered 26 episodes to begin with. On November 17th, the Metro Gallery in Melbourne will be hosting a new show from Michael Peck entitled Love & Fear. The fresh batch of paintings were developed during a three-month residency at Birrarung House where he was inspired by the desolate surroundings. As in past works, Peck re-imagines children in the role of adults – this time as hunters, trappers, and outdoorsman. Tag and Juice Gallery in Sao Paulo, Brazil, recently opened Preto e Branco (Black and White), a show by 2501 (Jacopo Ceccarelli) and Ozmo (Gionata Gesi) from Italy.
