Openings: Manifest Hope DC

The Manifest Hope: DC exhibition, showcasing the spirit of the grass-root artist movement, officially opened it’s doors Saturday morning, but Friday night, select VIPs and friends were invited to preview the pop-up gallery.  The packed house reflected the energy that is currently flowing into the nation’s capital for Inauguration.  With the crew working hard to put the 11th hour finishing touches on the exhibition prior to the unveiling, the inspired looks from the audience once curtains came up made the week long marathon set-up all worthwhile! AM took […]

Teaser: Audrey Kawasaki @ Outre Gallery

Audrey Kawasaki will be opening a show in Australia at Outre Gallery on February 13th. This will mainly be an exhibition of sold out prints (APs) with only one new original (in progress seen above). There will also be a new print scheduled for released as well. For our readers down under who want more of Audrey, look for a larger show in 2010 that should presumably include more originals. Black Rat Press @ the London Art Fair

As previously mentioned, Black Rat Press exhibited at the London Art Fair where they showed works by Swoon, Matt Small, Lucas Price, Asha Zero, Brian Adam Douglas, D*Face and Nick Walker.  As expected, Walker’s print sold out, but there were actually some pretty good originals available.  In particular, Swoon’s and Matt Small’s pieces were quite strong.  Take a look after the jump.

Andrew Schoultz & AJ Fosik @ Space 1026

Andrew Schoultz and AJ Fosik opened up a pretty amazing show full of complex installations last weekend at Space 1026 in Philadelphia. We have never really envisioned their work interacting but the kinetic energy of Schoultz’s frenzied imagery blends nicely with the sculpts of Fosik’s beasts and folklore – perhaps it’s the complementary color palettes. Not to mention, the cryptic letterings of Fosik combines with Schoultz’s penchant for incorporating the symbolism of U.S. currency to form a body of work that hints of conspiracies and […]

Teaser: Craola @ Fifty24SF

As previously mentioned in passing, Greg “Craola” Simkins is opening his show “Seeing Things” on February 5th at Fifty24SF concurrently with Anthony Lister. Judging from the imagery from this showcard (clouds of goo, pedestals, stark black backgrounds, etc.), he is continuing and expanding on the themes of his two successful sold out shows last year “It Wanders East” and “It Wanders West.” Look for more details here as the show draws nearer. Discuss this show here. Discuss Craola here.

Process: Manifest Hope DC – Mike Murphy

What a difference a day makes… Well, another 24 hours later and the Manifest Hope DC show is beginning to take shape! What caught our eye during the madness are the installation and works by on site artist Mike Murphy. He has more than a few significant pieces for this show and a crew of over 15 assistants working to get these beauties ready for the opening. Mike was gracious enough to give us a quick overview of the his major pieces. Continue reading after […]

Audrey Kawasaki – Laser Cuts

Audrey Kawasaki posted up a collage of images this morning on her japanese blog and we couldn’t help but notice another laser cut piece (NFS) in the upper right-hand corner.  We first saw her use this technique with a piece from “The Drawing Room” show and then another piece from the “Clowns!” show.  From what we hear, she owns a laser cutting machine…  so look for more of these delightful pieces in the future. Take a look at the ones she has done so far […]

Interviews: James “Dalek” Marshall

James Marshall, aka Dalek, is known for brightly colored, superflat paintings consisting of his signature Space Monkeys. But since his 2007 show at New York’s Jonathan Levine Gallery, entitled Desperate, Rejected and Angry, the military brat and once graffiti artist has been pushing the boundaries of his style, becoming more and more geometric and abstract. AM chatted with Marshall recently about British science fiction, art fairs and beyond. Read the interview after the jump.
