Studio Visits: Jeff Soto (Part I)

Stopped by Jeff Soto’s studio last week to check out his progress on his upcoming show at the Riverside Art Museum as well as introduce him to the guys at Modus Films. We’re working on a little project that we think you will enjoy. In the meantime, take a look at one of the large paintings he is working on! More after the jump.

Dan Witz: Kilroy Variations

Dan Witz has posted up some images up of his project the “Kilroy Variations,” his take on the ubiquitous “Kilroy was here” graffiti.  He originally this project in 2006, but this 2008 update has evolved quite a bit since it’s beginnings. This version has various photo-realistic people as well as cartoons peeping through or sticking fingers out through vents and ducts.  These are photo-based, re-painted stickers, mounted on plastic and then glued on walls/doors.  I think if it was dark and you came upon these suddenly, it could be quite […]

Preview: Scott Belcastro @ Cerasoli:LeBasse

Scott Belcastro’s newest display of work will be shown on November 8th at the Cerasoli:Lebasse gallery as part of a two-person show with Nate Frizzell (previewed). He gave us a little insight on the show. “The theme of the show is based on the idea of being lost in the thicket or the forest….while searching for a home for your beliefs or feelings. I like the fact that I can bring someone into my feelings and they can look around for awhile, it’s not easy […]

Preview: Kukula @ Copro Nason

The preview images for Kukula’s show “Princess Express” (previously teased) which opens on November 8th at Copronason are now online.  You really get a feeling that her work has matured as you look through her paintings.  Her details, “story-telling,” and composition really look to have taken a step up while maintining some of the edginess from before (bleeding hearts, injured animals, scratch marks, suggestive outfits).  See for yourself after the jump.

The panel will moderated by none other than Seth Carmichael of the Carmichael Gallery. The panel has been designed to incorporate not only artists, but also an art critic, film maker, auction specialist, and gallery curator/owner to facilitate a healthy dialogue. This […]
