Streets: Boa Mistura (Brazil)

Revisiting their installation (covered) from 2012 in the Favela of Vila Brasilandia, at the north of Sao Paulo, Boa Mistura returned to update the project. Entitled Luz Nas Vielas, the undertaking saw the collective paint a series of words and colors through their signature use of anamorphosis in the alleyways of the favela. Openings: Matzu // Tomokazu Matsuyama – “Oh Magic Night” @ HOCA Foundation

A couple weekends ago, the HOCA Foundation in Hong Kong hosted an opening reception for a new showing from Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) entitled Oh Magic Night. Taking full advantage of the 11,000 exhibition space, the Brooklyn-based artist presented 45 paintings and 10 sculptural works that have been a year in the making. On Monday, April 3rd, the Brooklyn Museum will host the seventh annual Brooklyn Artists Ball. This year’s event will honor Brooklyn Museum trustee and music producer Kasseem “Swizz Beatz” Dean and artist and activist Alicia Keys for their outstanding commitment to art in all its forms. This year’s event will be full of artist collaborations, transformative décor brought to life by David Stark Designs, and special surprise performances. Upcoming: Casey Gray – “Double Knotted” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

On April 1st, Hashimoto Contemporary will present a new body or work from Casey Gray in their San Francisco space. Entitled Double Knotted, this will the first solo at the gallery by the locally-based artist featuring his special form of still life utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking techniques. Though the end of this week, Alex Gross’ (interviewed) solo Antisocial Network will be on view at the Corey Helford Gallery featuring the locally-based artist’s look at the paradoxical effects of social media in our lives. Releases: Seth – “In My Head” Lithograph

First introduced in China during the Back To School mural project in September 2016, than recreated at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Lyon, for his Wall Drawings exhibition, Seth will be releasing his In My Head image as a limited edition lithograph. Available from March 30th via agencesixpm.com this will be an inaugural edition for the new Paris-based art agency. Although we’ve barely warmed up to KAWS’ latest product (covered), he surprises us with even more news via Instagram. “I’m happy to finally be able to announce a new project releasing this April with Uniqlo…” Like his previous Uniqlo project, there will be KAWS x Peanuts apparel as well as some plush toys apparently this go around (see below). Releases: Josh Keyes – “I’ll Melt With You” Print

Josh Keyes (interviewed) just released an open edition entitled I’ll Melt With You. The image is taken from a 2016 acrylic painting and displays his concern with humankind’s effect on our environment and future. The edition will be open/unsigned and the image dimensions are 12 x16 inches (30.48 x 40.64 cm). Total print dimensions, including border: 16 x 20 inches (40.64 x 50.8 cm).
