Streets: Sage Vaughn (Los Angeles)

Recently in Los Angeles, on the border of Tarzana and Reseda, Sage Vaughn painted a mural on a side of a new structure on Ventura Blvd. The wall features a large-scale rendition of the locally-based artist’s instantly recognizable Wildflowers imagery, sprinkled with some mushrooms and other wildlife. Showing: Dessie Jackson – “Flavored Water” at Treason Gallery

Pennsylvania native and California transplant, Dessie Jackson, recently brought her latest collection of new works to Seattle’s Treason Gallery. The exhibition, titled Flavored Water, features a dozen large portraits that could find themselves on the cover of the latest fashion magazines. However, these beauty shots have been augmented in slightly different ways, asking the viewer to determine what the true meaning of beauty really is.

French artists BLO and JAW from Da Mental Vaporz crew are currently have work on display in a duo exhibition entitled AMALGAM at The Art Union in Berlin. Moving from figurative depiction, both artists are diving into a sphere of abstraction and dynamics, opening up their pictorial dialogue by exploring the abstract landscapes which emerge through the amalgamation of their creational spirits. Openings: Seonna Hong – “In Our Nature” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last weekend, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco held the opening reception for a solo exhibition from Seonna Hong (interviewed). Entitled In Our Nature, the new body of work from the Los Angeles-based artist continued her landscape works featuring her human and animal companions surrounding by minimalistic environments created from abstract and loose elements. On October 13th, Rodolphe Janssen in Brussels will be showing for the first time the works of American artist Emily Mae Smith. The concept of Tesla Girls was inspired by Christopher Priest’s 1995 novel The Prestige and the idea of a faulty teleportation machine that creates nonidentical duplicates of a person. With this idea in mind, Smith is continuing her signature series of female portraits recognizable by round glasses, sharp hairstyles and lack of distinguishable features.
