Streets: Hula – “Maka’u” (Hawaii)

Continuing his series of works in hard to reach locations, Hula recently painted a mural on the edge of a waterfall entitled Maka’u. Dealing with issues of fear, as suggested by the title, on multiple levels, the piece saw the Oahu-raised artist otherwise known as Sean Yoro suspend himself on the edge of a waterway on surfboard as he took risks to paint an image of a person hanging on by a rope. This weekend, Galerie Perrotin in Paris hosted the opening of a new show from Aya Takano entitled The Jelly Civilization Chronicle. The ethereal and dreamy 26 paintings and drawings on display are the preparatory studies for a 186-page manga of the same name from the Japanese artist. This weekend, until Sunday, March 19th at 11:59pm PST, Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) will be releasing a new print entitled As I Fall. The 48 hour time limited edition is a reproduction of one of the paintings from the Los Angeles-based artist’s solo show from last year (covered), a painting influenced by the smoggy sunsets of LA. On February 16th, the Croatian Association of Visual Artists held a quadruple solo show presentation by some fresh young talents. Igor Taritaš was one of the artists that had a chance to present his work at the unique space of Galerija Prsten in Zagreb, along with Iva Habus, Radovan Kunić and Maya Rozman. One week since Banksy’s latest & arguably one of his strongest stunts to date was revealed to the public, we’ve received the first official photographs of The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem (covered). With local visitors enjoying the quiet space in an otherwise loud and turbulent area, these images give us an even closer look at the hotel premises, including the artworks which the infamous artist created & installed in the former pottery workshop building.
