On November 3rd, Lawrence Alkin Gallery opened Shoplifting, a new solo show by felt sculpture artist Lucy Sparrow. Inspired by the artist’s time spent working in a supermarket, the show will include a new range of daily products recreated as hand-crafted felt items. Publications: Barbara Kruger x New York Magazine Cover

For their election issue, New York Magazine turned to someone who they had worked with in the past, Barbara Kruger, to design the cover. Utilizing a variation of what is arguably her most iconic text-based work, the influential artist pasted a large red bar with the word “LOSER” across the face of Donald Trump. Recap: MOMO @ Studiocromie

Following a mural painting trip through Italy (more on this later), MOMO concluded things with a solo exhibition at Studiocromie in Grottaglie. The new body of work on includes paintings on canvas, paper pieces, prints, and ceramics all demonstrating the American artist’s unique use of patterns, shapes, and colors, both seemingly random and purposeful at the same time. The sold out show apparently was on view for two days only but you can see more photos below on what was on display. Discuss MOMO here.

ComplexCon ’16 / Previews: POW! WOW! x James Jean

With the inaugural ComplexCon fast approaching this weekend, the people behind POW! WOW! are prepping their contribution – a living area with artist driven furniture from the likes of Risk, Sharktoof, Persue and others, as well as a gallery with original art from Yoskay Yamamoto, Aaron De La Cruz, Tristan Eaton and more. Upcoming: Ryan McGinley – “YEARBOOK” @ La Térmica

On November 19th, Ryan McGinley will be opening another iteration of his YEARBOOK project at La Térmica in Malaga, Spain. Consisting of studio portraits of over two hundred nude models, the display of these photos are usually in installation form, this time impressively adhered to all of the cultural center’s walls in their showspace. Heading into the final days (thru November 11th) at the The Goss-Michael Foundation is Instincts from Jose Parla, the inaugural exhibition at the new smaller and more focused space on Wycliff Ave in Dallas. The new site-specific pieces from the Cuban-American artist are richly textured, heavily influenced (as is his practice) by the gritty and decaying walls on the streets with layers and layers of calligraphic gestures. Utilizing intense colors and free flowing script, the paintings and sculptures speak to the Brooklyn-based artist’s “creative instinct,” the overarching theme of the new body of work. […]

Eighteen in Copenhagen, a new space by V1 Gallery, is currently showing 29 Flags, a solo exhibition/installation by Cali Thornhill DeWitt. The exhibition opened on October 13th and will stay on view until October 14th. DeWitt’s new body of work consists of 29 vintage Stars & Stripes with flock lettering reflecting on the infamous moments that marked the last few decades of American life. Streets: Fanakapan // Halloween Pumpkin Heads (London)

With Halloween in mind, Fanakapan put his special style to work creating some pumpkin head murals on the streets of London. The first piece (seen above) was a solo endeavor that once again highlights the UK-based artist’s balloon animal technique with a creepy jack-o’-lantern. The second wall painted was a collaboration with AliHamish Campbell & Tom Blackford at Mile End Skate Park with a pumpkin-head skeleton as his contribution.
