Streets: Aryz x SAN Chapel Mural (Spain)

Last month in Zaragoza, Spain, Aryz and his friend SAN (Daniel Muñoz) painted the chapel of an old psychiatric hospital for Festival Asalto. Covering the exterior of the building with their distinctive imagery, the two spanish artists skillfully worked around all the architectural details while creating an intriguing juxtaposition between the new and old world. Previews: Glenn Barr – “Invisible World” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

On October 15th, Glenn Barr will be opening a new solo show with Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. The new body of work features paintings that look like stills from old movies created with the Detroit-based artist’s signature pulp art aesthetic. Streets: David Shrigley – “Really Good” // Fourth Plinth (London)

At the end of last month, David Shrigley revealed his public art commission standing on the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square. Entitled Really Good, the seven-meter-high bronze piece featuring an extra long thumbs up was sand cast in 50 pieces over 9 months. The British artist hopes that this 11th sculpture for the long running arts program will become a “self-fulfilling prophecy –  that things considered bad, such as the economy, the weather and society will benefit from a change of consensus towards positivity.” Photos via It’s […]

Upcoming: Aron Wiesenfeld – “Unwind The Winding Path” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Teasing his fans with shots of the stunning new body of work he is working on for his next solo show, Aron Wiesenfeld has already revealed a look at a massive drawing in progress (seen above) as well as a cropped shot of a painting he has completed (seen below). Unwind The Winding Path opens on November 19th at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York and will be the San Diego-based artist’s major exhibition for 2016. Showing: Swoon – “Thalassa” @ Detroit Institute of Arts

At the end of last month, Swoon (interviewed) unveiled the latest iteration of her Thalassa installation at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Fans of the her work can check out the suspended sculptural piece at the Woodward Avenue entrance through the end of May of next year. This display of Swoon’s work will round out nicely her contributions to the art scene of the Motor City to go along with her exhibition opening soon at Library Street Collective as well as a mural project in the Jefferson-Chalmers district. Upcoming: Mark Ryden – “Diversiform” @ Hidari Zingaro

On October 15th, Mark Ryden (interviewed) will be opening a show at Hidari Zingaro, the gallery of Takashi Murakami who has been a long time fan of his work. Diversiform will only be an exhibition of rare editions from the veteran of the lowbrow movement, but will give fans in Tokyo a rare opportunity to see his imagery in person. Releases: SABER x 1849 Wine – “Iris” Bottle

Following up on his sold out Au Jus, Triumph, and Anonymous collaborations with the 1849 Wine, SABER (interviewed) recently released another bottle he designed for the wine company. Iris is of a 2013 vintage, a pinot noir “rich with dark cherry aromas accented with notes of violets and spice, supported by toast and the faint smoke from the barrel.” The label features imagery taken from the graffiti artist’s Tool of Dissent painting, a burst of colors created in his distinctive urban calligraphy. Setup: Swoon – “The Light After” @ Library Street Collective (Detroit)

Along with unveiling an installation at the Detroit Institute of Arts (covered) while in the Motor City, Swoon (interviewed) will also be opening a solo show at Library Street Collective on October 10th. The Light After will be an immersive exhibition covering approximately 2,500 square feet of gallery walls and ceilings with hundreds of hand-cut paper and Mylar elements.
