Openings: “OUTSIDEIN” @ ArtCenter College of Design

Last week, OUTSIDEIN opened at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena with contributions from artists Olivia Bevilacqua, David Flores, Chase, Robbie Conal, Cryptik, Jeanne Detallante, Shepard Fairey, James Jean, Geoff McFetridge, Kenny Scharf, RISK and Jeff Soto. The exhibition was dedicated to the art of graffiti-based mural painting and hence featured murals painted inside as well as outside by the participants. Releases: Mars-1 – “Mars Molecule Collection”

Coinciding with his current exhibition at Heron Arts in San Francisco, Mars-1 (featured) has released a set of bronze sculptures titled Mars Molecule Collection that mirror the large scale pieces in the show. The sculpts are three dimensional representations of the SF-based artist organic otherworldly paintings and were first revealed in this year’s Burning Man. The set costs $2000 and come in an edition of 24 and are available here. Discuss Mars-1 here.

Project 256 is a unique non-commercial campaign that launched several days ago in Paris. By combining street art and digital technology, the innovative project aims to ease some of the suffering of people that call those same streets their home. The concept of this campaign is based on creating a portrait of a homeless person in the public space. Befitting the month known for ghouls and ghosts, Flatcolor Gallery in Seattle welcomed in EGO and Grady Gordon to exhibit new works earlier this month. EGO’s The Time Is Never features characters with enough charming personality to overcome their stereotypical spookiness. Last month, as part of the Murals In the Market festival, Luke Chueh (interviewed) painted a rare public arts mural in Detroit’s Eastern Market. The Los Angeles-based painter decided to go with an image inspired by his thoughts of the Motor City as being the home of house music and DJ culture as we know it. Denver’s David B. Smith Gallery will be presenting new works from Laura Ball starting this Friday, October 16th. The new watercolors are collectively entitled Keep, a continuation of her exploration of the subconscious and the hero myth of Joseph Campbell. In San Diego-based artist’s mind, the amalgamations of creatures, bones, and flora form sanctuaries in her paintings where the endangered animals can find refuge in a rapidly declining world.
