Releases: Ian Francis – “Reflective Encounter” & “Two People Feed A Lion” Prints

Those who enjoyed the stunning new works from Ian Francis (featured) for a showing earlier this summer (covered) at Lazarides had an opportunity earlier this week to purchase some prints of images seen at the exhibition. The gallery released limited editions (run of 20) featuring the British artist’s masterful melding of photorealistic and abstract imagery through their webstore. Two People Feed A Lion has already soldout but Reflective Encounter (seen above) is still available here. Streets: Faith47 (New York)

Earlier this week, Faith47 finished a mural in East Harlem on the corner of 103 Street and Madison Avenue entitled Estamos Todos Los Que Cabemos, a part of MonumentArt, presented by the La Marqueta Retoña initiative. The wall was painted as part of the project focused on the issue of immigration with the imagery of migratory birds chosen for the fact their their patterns ignore human borders on a map. Album Covers: RETNA x Justin Bieber – “Purpose”

Continuing the long run of album covers designed by artists covered here on AM through the years, RETNA (featured) was recently revealed as the artist to work with Justin Bieber on his new album. The unlikely collaboration between the notorious LA writer and the Canadian pop singer features an image of Beiber overlaid with RETNA’s instantly recognizable graffiti script. Purpose is scheduled for release on November 12th. Discuss RETNA here.

Streets: Alexis Diaz, DALeast, Borondo / Lodz Walls (Poland)

Recently in Poland, Alexis Diaz (seen above), DALeast, and Borondo stopped by to paint some murals in the city of Lodz. Curated by Michał Bieżyński, the new works for Lodz Murals are a continuation of a public arts program for the third largest city in the country. City dwellers and online admirers will now be able to enjoy the detailed patchwork of Diaz, iconic kinetic wave from DAL, and the painterly skills of Borondo. Photo credit: Maciej Stempij.

Previews: Yoskay Yamamoto / Giant Robot Biennale 4 @ JANM

Opening on October 10th at the Japanese American National Museum is Giant Robot Biennale 4, a group exhibition featuring works from artists curated by Eric Nakamura (interviewed), the man behind the Giant Robot brand. The fourth iteration (see 2009, 2012) of the show looks to be the most ambitious yet featuring artists like James Jean, Jim Lee, Kim Jung Gi, Katsuya Terada, Edwin Ushiro, and Yumi Sakagawa, among others. Showing: Taylor McKimens – “Stoic Youth” @ The Hole

This is the last week The Hole in NYC is hosting Taylor McKimens’ solo show with over 20 paintings of different sizes and shapes, all being portraits of two imaginary people. Releases: Nick Walker – “The Last Ride” Print

Nick Walker (interviewed) will have a new print entitled The Last Ride on sale on Monday, the 12th October, at 3.30pm DST UK time. The print was inspired by a portrait by Butterfly featuring the UK artist in his signature vandal outfit riding a carousel horse next to the Eiffel Tower during a visit to the French capital. Produced in an edition of 150 on Somerset Satin 410 gms and sized at 66cm x 96 cm, it will be available for £400 online from the UK-based artist’s website.
