Upcoming: Joel Rea – “Beasts of Arcadia” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

On September 12th, Joel Rea will be opening a new show at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery entitled Beasts of Arcadia. The Australia-based painter is known for his grand imagery and mastery over building tension with his compositions feature humans and predatory creatures. We are sure you are looking forward to seeing the completed pieces at the opening but for now, enjoy some process shots of Rea prepping for the exhibition. Discuss Joel Rea.

Setup: EVOL – “Unreal Estate” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Counting down to the last days of the EVOL exhibition at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, here is a look back at the Berlin-based artist setting up for the show. Specializing in the reproduction of urban structures in the miniature on the streets, his work is intrinsically suited for the transition into the indoor setting. For Unreal Estate, his cardboard & stenciled constructions are commenting on the current state of the real estate market and comparing it to the post-wall, pre-gentrified East Berlin. He further states – “Society is constantly […]

Streets: Invader (Paris)

Last time we heard from Invader, he was in Hong Kong opening a massive show (covered) back in May of this year. Recently, the French artist has returned back to his home base of Paris to continue propagating his imagery on the streets. Taking from a diverse set of pop culture and video game imagery, he always delights his fans with new surprises like the Cheshire Cat (seen above) as well as some classic pieces. Releases: Martin Wittfooth – “The Aviary” Print

If you remember, we first shared with you this massive painting from Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) back in 2013. The impressive piece featuring the powerful imagery of a leopard stretched above a view of TriBeCa was eventually seen at a showing with the Long Beach Museum of Art back in 2014 (covered). Now, the image is available as a print here if you are interested in adding it to your collection. Sized at 30″ x 21″, the limited edition will be produced in a run of 50 and cost […]

Discuss Dave Kinsey here.

Showing: “Chained” @ Wunderkammern

Following the theme of this year’s Expo15 in Milan, which is “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” Wunderkammern Gallery organized a collateral art project titled Chained. The idea behind this group exhibition is to investigate the dynamics between humans and nature through the works of art contributed by artists in this show. Entering the final week, the hangar of the Municipality of Milan on Via Amari is currently hosting works by 2501, Atomo, Borondo, BR1, C215, Max Rippo, Sam3, Sten Lex and Edoardo Tresoldi. The lineup for this show is a result of an […]

Streets: JR (New York)

Internationally known, world famous street artist and activist JR (interviewed) spent a good part of a day hanging out in Little Italy working on his latest cliff hanger. This latest wall, one of his more modest works, is a sprawling 7 stories, and appears to be making a statement about global economics and its uncertainty. Depicting a man holding on by just the tips of his fingers, this is just one of many works we expect to be seeing from the French artist while he is […]

Streets: El Mac x Kofie (LA)

El Mac recently teamed up with his friend Augustine Kofie (featured) once again and to paint a new piece entitled Icarian Flight somewhere on the streets of LA. This is not the first time the two locally-based artists have collaborated, and with a good reason we must add after seeing this mural. The juxtaposition of El Mac’s distinctive soft portraiture against sharp and geo-based abstraction of Kofie creates a powerful mixture that brings out the best of both styles. On top of being different imagery wise, the transparent, aerosol-based […]

Releases: Pejac – “Meadow” Print

After his recent Asian tour that included Hong Kong (covered), Seoul (covered) and Tokyo (covered), Pejac returned to his studio in Barcelona to work on his next limited edition release. The image he chose for this release is a black and white version of his large canvas, Meadow,  that he painted earlier this week. Depicting a startled lonely deer in a meadow made of arrows, it is a nice example of his simple visual language that carries a deeper, more complex message. While plain at first, the […]
