Openings: Boris “DELTA” Tellegen – “Overburden” @ Common Gallery

Recently, Tokyo’s Common Gallery opened a new show from Boris Tellegen entitled Overburden. Also known as DELTA, a moniker used during his time in graffiti, the Amsterdam-based artist presented a diverse set of works for his fans in Japan to enjoy. Ranging from pieces on paper to sculptural relief pieces, his largest body of work exhibited this year features his familiar geometric forms, all created with architectural elements throughout. On January 9th, the Roq La Rue gallery will be opening a special show curated by one of our writers Robbie Lowery entitled Unpredictable Gravity. The group exhibition features an incredible lineup of artists who along with the gallery will be donating half the proceeds toward cancer charities. Streets: D*Face (Tokyo) – Part II

Earlier this month, we shared with you a mural that D*Face (interviewed) painted in Tokyo while he there for an exhibition at Parco Gallery X. Turns out the UK-based artist had time to get up with another piece featuring Japan’s favorite feline character, the iconic Hello Kitty. Of course, D had to paint her with his signature surreal touch with half the face ripped away revealing the skull underneath. Photos via Mura. Discuss D*Face here.

Currently at the 62 Kingly Street location of Sadie Coles HQ in London, the show Melodrama features an indoor downpouring of oversized plaster raindrops by Urs Fischer. The installation on display mirrors some of the Swiss-born artist’s recent exhibition at the MOCA in Los Angeles, where he also invited his fans to participate in building some of the sculptural work. After updating you with a new mural from Augustine Kofie (featured) in Detroit, it’s time to share some more fresh work from three other artists involved with the project. Curated by the Library Street Collective for a downtown mixed-use development (referred to as “The Z”), the undertaking had many American artists involved like Matt W. Moore, Push, Victor Reyes. Nike Vault at the STAPLES Center recently launched The Kobe Prelude Experience. For eight weeks, they are showcasing Kobe inspired artwork by different artists, and every Saturday they will unveil a new piece. Each piece is tied to a key moment in Kobe’s career.
