Releases: Wes Lang – “Warrior Skull”

Artist Wes Lang has a new print entitled Warrior Skull. This image is the centerpiece of the new Grateful Dead box set Spring 1990. There’s two versions of this limited edition, the first is a run of 50 sized at 17″ x21″ and the second is a run of 10 sized at 34″ x 41″. Get yours here if interested. Screening: “Bumblebeelovesyou” @ Epic Lounge

This Sunday, August 19th, the Epic Lounge in Downey, California will be hosting a screening of Bumblebeelovesyou by Handi. As the title suggests, the short documentary is about local street artist Bumblebee. Also available for purchase will be a nice little limited edition release from the urban “beekeeper” entitled Bee Is For Ballerina in an run of 20 (spraypaint and watercolor on paper) for those interested. Upcoming: “Space//Form” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Following our recently curated group exhibitions in Hong Kong; East West Connect and Los Angeles; City of Fire, AM’s UK correspondent Sven Davis has branched out with his own curatorial endeavour Space//Form. The group exhibition brings together over 100 young contemporary artists, and opens 6th September at Portland’s Breeze Block Gallery. Curator, Sven Davis, has worked in architecture for over 20 years, so the thematic center of the exhibition is close to his heart as Space//Form centers around notions of the architectural landscape. Openings: Nicole Naone – “Mass” @ Human Imagination

Our friend and Hawaiian native Nicole Naone recently made her debut solo at Honolulu’s Human Imagination. Entitled Mass, the exhibition gives us a look at the classic female form through subtle compositions which Nicole hand molded in foam and plaster. Diverse in her mediums, we also caught sight of smooth illustrations and sculptures cast in bronze. A very sweet debut showcasing what the full time artist & part time model has achieved since we last time we saw her at this year’s POW WOW.

Streets: Walk & Talk Festival (Part II) – Liqen

Mexico-based street artist Liqen, who was just recently in upstate New York for the Wall Therapy Festival (covered), has traveled now to the Azores for the Walk & Talk Festival.  Vhils had already made his mark in San Miguel, and now Liqen has done the same with this surreal spaceship on the side of a building entitled Satellite Souleater. Upcoming: Frank Gonzales – “Habitat” @ Beals & Abbate

Coming up next month, the Beals & Abbate Gallery in New Mexico will be hosting a solo exhibition from Frank Gonzales. Last year around the same time, the New York-based artist also presented a selection of his paintings of beautifully rendered scenes of nature, infused with an abstract overlays. Streets: Yayoi Kusama – New York (Part II)

After sharing one public arts project in New York from Yayoi Kusama with you earlier this week (here), we now turn our attention to the collaboration with Louis Vuitton on a fashion line entitled Infinitely Kusama. The artist’s renowned spots and vegetation tentacles currently adorn LV’s flagship store on the corner of 5th Ave. Similar to Takashi Murakami, whose Multicolore motif wrapped the retail space in 2008, Yayoi’s circles adorn the the exterior as well as the interior window installation. Openings: Crazy 4 Cult – Gallery 1988 (NYC)

Last week, AM took a walk down memory lane as the annual Crazy 4 Cult opened its doors to the legions of fans of cult movies and art, especially those who wanted one of the prints from Olly Moss (seen above) based off the film Léon: The Professional. Hosted as usual by Gallery 1988, this year’s showing (the sixth one) was its first time in New York and was as popular as always.
