Last week, UK-based painter Matt Small (interviewed) opened a new solo show at  Lackall Studios in London with a new body of work derived from his experiences while working on a youth empowerment project. Futura: “The Art of Reinvention & History of Collaborations”

Futura has always been a legend in the realm of graffiti and street art. Recently, he has taken a step back towards the limelight in the world of art with a show at Galerie Jerome de Noirmont (covered) and a prominent collaboration with Hennessy on their iconic VS bottle. Unlike many in the current trend of street art, he isn’t a novel flash in the pan – Leonard Hilton McGurr (aka. Futura) has always been relevant. Our friends at Complex put together a comprehensive write up on the […]

Showing: Candice Tripp – “Petit Mal @ Black Rat Gallery

Last month, London was treated to a new solo showing from Candice Tripp (interviewed) at Black Rat Projects entitled Petit Mal. The new paintings are some of her best and darkest yet, featuring her masked adolescents participating in bizarre scenarios as if from a bad nightmare. This horror-infused imagery is further enhanced with a layer of awkward social interaction from the subjects leading one to wonder what more there is to the story that can only seen through the lens of a moment in time captured by the painting. Rounding out […]

Nicola Verlato – “Zero Gravity” @ Merry Karnowsky

Over the weekend, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles welcomed local artist Nicola Verlato and his new paintings into their showspace with an opening reception. The new works collectively entitled Zero Gravity are beautiful executed with his characters and objects suspended in midair as if frozen in time. We already caught a glimpse of the new body of work during a studio visit last week, but nothing beats seeing the paintings in situ.
