Previews: Chris Stain & Joe Iurato – “Deep In The Cut” @ Mighty Tanaka

Tonight, Brooklyn’s Mighty Tanaka will be premiering a duo show with artists Chris Stain (interviewed) and Joe Iurato. Entitled Deep In The Cut, this exhibition pairs two urban artists who feature uniquely different styles, yet both create works utilizing highly technical hand cut stencils. Openings: “Summer Group Show” @ Spoke Art

Last Thursday, Spoke Art opened its first annual Summer Group Show featuring a selection of up & coming local and international talent. Streets: Phlegm for the 2012 Bloop Festival (Ibiza)

After a series of murals in New York, Phlegm continues his globe-trotting ways and head over to Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza for the Bloop Festival (see last year). The new piece on the side of a building has an Escher-esque feel to it, but re-imagined with UK-based street painter’s characters and style. Also scheduled to make an appearance at the event are Interesni Kazki, Boris Hoppek, Btoy, Olek, Malarky, and more. Discuss Phlegm here.

Preview: “Lush Life Four” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night at Roq La Rue, the fourth rendition of their Lush Life group show will open with a diverse mix of artists including Camille Rose Garcia, Chris Berens (above), Madeline Von Foerster, Travis Louie, Glenn Barr, Ti Kunkit, Seamus Conley, Annie Owens, Sam Wolfe Connolley, Laurie Lee Brom, Lindsey Carr, Jessica Joslin, Michael Alm, Handiedan, Peter Ferguson, Zoe Williams, and Eric Fortune (seen directly below). Openings: “Oakland NOW” @ Spoke Art (Oakland)

San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery recently teamed with East Bay Express, fiftyseven-thirtythree and the city of Oakland to set up an exhibition that opened in conjunction with the 12th Annual Art and Soul Festival. Publications: Andrew Hem – “Dreams Towards Reality” Book

Andrew Hem (interviewed), who we last saw a year ago during his solo in Los Angeles (covered), has something new for his fans. The new book, Dreams Towards Reality, is a survey of Hem’s recent paintings but also includes “selections from his early work, graffiti, sketches, murals, sculptures and collages, as well as photographs from the extensive travel in Southeast Asia and South America that has informed his vision.” Also included is an in-depth essay by Amanda Erlanson. Streets: Blu (Italy)

Italian street savant Blu, who recently reappeared in Spain for the Desordes Creativas Festival where he made vegetarians everywhere feel just as guilty as meat-lovers, has now returned to his native country for a mural. The new work in Sardinia shows a lab experiment being conducted by a pair of large green hands, a nod to the feeling in the region that Quirra Syndrome with an unusually high cancer rate is due to the military testing in the area. Signings: Futura x Hennessy @ Mel & Rose

Prior to the massive launch party for the new Futura designed Hennessy bottle in Los Angeles, the graffiti legend held a special signing for his fans. Hosted by fine liquor retailers Mel & Rose, the event featured a meet and greet for collectors as well as associated Futura imagery. The bottle is only limited to 200,000 worldwide so snap up yours before they are gone.
