Openings: Greg Simkins – “Cloud Theory” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

On Saturday night, fans of Greg Simkins (Craola) (featured) were treated to a showing of his first major body of work since his exhibition last year in Canada (covered). Presenting a collection of paintings at Merry Karnowsky that were complex, imaginative, and beautifully rendered, the LA-based artist made sure Cloud Theory was well worth the wait. Interview: Morgan Spurlock

Saturday evening, 941 Geary hosted German duo Herakut’s latest exhibition – Loving the Exiled (previewed). The show consists of a series of large scale works on canvas that depict figures that have fallen from grace. Previews: BAM Benefit Auction @ Paddle 8

AM recently had the chance to stop by The Brooklyn Academy of Music’s (BAM) annual silent auction to take a look at the artwork up for bid. Openings: Dennis McNett x Swoon x Monica Canilao @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

Earlier this month Dennis McNett (featured), Swoon (interviewed) and Monica Canilao opened a brand new exhibition entitled The Folding of a Known World at Galleria Patricia Armocida. The trio of US-based artists traveled to Milan to work together on creating fresh collaborative installations filled with their signature styles and techniques. McNett sent us some photos documenting their progress as they slaved away in Italy as well as some final shots of the fruits of their labor. Check it all out after the jump.

Kickstarter – “OBEY THE GIANT” Film

We have another great Kickstarter project for your consideration. Julian Marshall, a student at Shepard Fairey’s (featured) alma mater RISD, put together kind of an origins film for the street artist based on his time at the school. With a minimum of $30,000 needed to finish post-production, there are multiple levels of contributing with a tiered level of rewards depending on how much you give.  Check it out here. Releases: James Jean x OVM Butterfly Collection

Earlier this week, we heralded the imminent release of James Jean’s (featured) Butterfly collection from his OVM line. It looks like his fans didn’t have to wait long as the entire selection of earrings, necklaces, rings, and bracelets have been made available as well as a matching scarf. With this continuing foray into fashion, the multi-talented Jean continues to push his artistic boundaries while maintaining the shapes, colors, imagery, and aesthetic to those familiar with his work.
