Over the weekend, Corey Helford presented new work by artist Eric Joyner (interviewed). The exhibition featured a collection of paintings that blended the artist’s attraction to classic sci-fi motifs with a sense of the mundane which often referenced the use of donuts. Other competing factors in his visual imagery include the use of landscapes and the natural environment. Earlier this month, the Buckwild Gallery brought 7th letter member EVOL and Fame City writer TEAL together for a special event highlighting their different styles and their own brand of art. Another quality mural on the streets has surfaced from Argentinian-born and now Spain-based artist Hyuro. It seems she is maintaining her strong work ethic since her solo show in Zurich at the end of last year with this new piece in Valencia, another wall we just featured last week, and some gallery work for a New York group show. Almost a year and a half out from his last showing at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, LA-based artist Alex Gross (interviewed) will return with a new body of work entitled Product Placement in February. Fusing his special blend of Victorian and Asian references, this collection of paintings for New York will feature commentary on consumer culture. Last Friday night, the OHWOW Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for Daniel Arsham’s the fall, the ball, and the wall. Displaying a deep interest in architecture and its relationship to the natural world, the NY-based artist’s collection of pieces for this showing can be grouped into three categories – structural interventions featuring his signature melting or dripping creations, a series of canvas works depicting buildings with elements that spell out words, and a hanging cloud of tinted spheres. Last week in Berlin, Gestalten hosted installation artist Mark Jenkins’ (interviewed) first solo show in Germany, Glazed Paradise. The American artist staged his startlingly lifelike sculptural works throughout the space to the delight of showgoers as they bravely roamed the gallery area. Also rounding out the night were limited edition offerings of his famous tape sculptures, photographs of his street work, as well as a lecture presentation from Jenkins. Last Friday, Exhibit A opened up its gallery doors to a multitude of artists all paying tribute to the legendary heavy metal band Metallica. Titled Obey Your Master, the exhibit featured artists such as Shepard Fairey, Travis Louie, David Stoupakis, Nicola Verlato, Brian Viveros, and Richard Villa III just to name a few. As we mentioned first all the way back in 2010, Jeremy Geddes (interviewed) will be introducing a new body of work at his highly anticipated solo at Jonathan LeVine later this year. The first glimpse of this New York showing is this final Cluster painting from the Melbourne-based artist, which also sounds like it might be released as a print at some point.
