Upcoming: Daniel Arsham – “Character Study” @ Morán Morán Gallery

Tonight in Los Angeles, Morán Morán Gallery will be opening a solo show from Daniel Arsham entitled Character Study. The title likely references the first part of the New York-based artist’s new body of work, the large scale recreations of his childhood collection of cartoon character patches that adorned his backpack. Created with plaster and in white, as is the formerly color-blind artist’s practice, the pieces which amazingly look to have the texture of cloth, are dusted with pigment chiaroscuro style. Arsham explains – “When I began delving into […]

Upcoming: D*Face – “FORNEVER” @ Galerie Itinerrance

Earlier tonight, Galerie Itinerrance in Paris opened up a new show from D*Face (interviewed) entitled FORNEVER. For his first solo in France, the British artist presented a diverse mix of paintings on canvas, sculptures, installations, HPMs, serigraphs, and some fresh assemblages (seen here). The new imagery deals with how nothing is forever, with the old replaced with the new and the tensions that come with it. Of course, D also took time to paint a large mural for his fans in the City of Love (more on that later). […]

Earlier this month in Belgium, the third iteration of the The Crystal Ship art festival (also see 2016 & 2017) welcomed in an international roster of artists to create murals and art installations in the coastal city of Ostend. One of the standout walls comes from Sainer (featured) of the Etam Cru entitled Podkarpacie, a painterly piece which appears to be named after a province in Poland. The stunning mural highlights Sainer’s skills when playing with soft focus and perspective, while working with a muted palette. We’ll have a recap […]

Avery Singer’s Days of the Week (Computer Pain) is showing through the end of this week at the 439 W. 127th Street location of Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in New York. Choosing a spoken word song Stretching it Wider from John Giorno as the backdrop for this new body of work, the locally-based artist has created seven large canvases for each day of the week to headline the exhibition. Singer typically uses modeling software to stage the work before transferring to canvas with her airbrush (although she has recently […]
