Live Painting: Anthony Lister @ ProjectRoom (Berlin)

Aussie street artist Anthony Lister (interviewed) recently hit up Berlin’s ProjectRoom (Jaybo’s showspace).  You may remember other events held there like the collaboration between Remi/Rough – Jaybo – Juice 126 or the Herakut live painting. Banksy – “Gas Mask Boy” @ Sotheby’s

What appears to be a previously unseen piece from Banksy by the general public has surfaced for an auction at Sotheby’s London at the end of the month. The piece created in 2010 and entitled Gas Mask Boy was probably acquired directly from the artist with appoximate overall dimensions of 27″ x 39″. Preview: Scott Radke – “Burlap” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Opening alongside Jen Lobo this Saturday night at Thinkspace, is the Ohio-based Scott Radke (interviewed). Featuring over two dozen pieces from the soulful sculptor, by far the most ever in one location, Burlap is a cant-miss show for fans of his beautifully grotesque works. As indicated by the title of the exhibition, many of these new sculptural pieces feature the incorporation of the specific fabric in the work, adding a nice new texture. Teaser: “Margaret Kilgallen: Summer / Selections” @ Ratio3

Influential Mission School artist Margaret Kilgallen will be featured at the Ratio3 Gallery in San Francisco at the end of the month. Entitled Margaret Kilgallen: Summer / Selections, The show will feature works on paper and paintings on canvas, some never before seen from the late Bay Area painter. The selected pieces will be prime examples of her use of delicate and folkloric imagery and will be her first solo exhibition in SF in over 13 years. Don’t miss the June 23rd opening. Swoon – “Thalassa” Installation @ New Orleans Museum of Art

Look familiar?  Yes, it’s another sweet installation from Swoon (interviewed), this time at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). Just as stunning as her light-infused piece from the Art in the Streets exhibition, this suspended ocean goddess is entitled Thalassa and is made of wood & paper and located above NOMA’s Great Hall with layered tentacles created from scavenged materials stretching to the mezzanine. Studio Visits: Ron English – “Skin Deep” @ Lazarides Rathbone Place

Last time Ron English was prepping for a show in the UK, he invited us over for a visit in his New Jersey based studio. Fast forward a few years, he’s moved into a large house in suburb of Beacon, New York. Openings: Jeff Canham, New Bohemia Signs, and ESPO @ Guerrero Gallery

On Saturday night, the Guerrero Gallery in SF opened up their doors to a show celebrating the signmaking aesthetic. Included in the show were artists influenced by the their love for typography and signage – Steve “ESPO” Powers and Jeff Canham, as well as the crew of New Bohemia Signs. Teaser: “Pretty on the Inside” @ Paul Kasmin

Later this month, the Paul Kasmin Gallery will host the opening of Pretty on the Inside, a show curated by KAWS and Erik Parker. To our knowledge, this is the first time KAWS has flexed his curatorial chops since I Can’t Feel My Face exhibition in Los Angeles in 2009 (covered). Streets: Blu & Ericailcane @ R.I.P.Arte Festival (Italy)

Reprising teamwork that has become familiar to street art fans everyone, Blu and Ericailcane hit up the R.I.P.Arte Festival in Fabriano, Italy recently with these two side-by-side pieces. Openings: Aaron Nagel – “A Thin Line” @ Shooting Gallery

Saturday night in San Francisco, the Shooting Gallery hosted a new collection of paintings from Aaron Nagel. It has been over a year since Nagel’s photorealistic renderings have graced the walls of the Tenderloin district showspace, and he returns with A Thin Line, a classical study on the beauty of the female form with a contemporary twist.
