Preview: Chloe Early & Amy Sol – “Birdsongs & Machine Sounds” & “Dear Milky Way” @ Corey Helford

This Saturday night in Culver City at the Corey Helford Gallery, two great artists get together to show Los Angeles what they have been hard at work on in the preceding months. UK artist Chloe Early (interviewed) brings with her “Birdsongs & Machine Sounds”, a new collection of paintings featuring her floating forms of beauty, now mixed in with instruments of war while Amy Sol (interviewed) will be bringing “Dear Milky Way”, her letter to the cosmos in the form of paintings still filled with […]

Showing: Lazarides’ “Hell’s Half Acre” at the Leake Street Tunnels

One of the most notable stops in our hectic journey through London was Lazarides’ “Hell’s Half Acre” group exhibition. The pop-up show was located in the eerie tunnels of Leake Street (AKA the Old Vic Tunnels where the Cans Festival was held). The dark catacombs were the perfect setting to host this amazing group show that featured signature works from artists such as Ian Francis, David Choe, Conor Harrington, Antony Micallef and Jonathan Yeo. One of the stand out pieces from the show was Paul […]

Cy Twombly – “Camino Real” @ Gagosian (Paris)

Already regarded as the best art gallery around, run by the most powerful figure in the art world, Gagosian Gallery opens a location in Paris and inaugurates it with an exhibition by one of the best artists alive. In what may be a sign of renewed confidence in the Paris art market (the city has had its fair share of important museum shows recently) or simply Larry Gagosian’s desire to take over the entire world one city at a time, the gallery opens in Paris […]

Preview: Loreta Sáez Franco – “The Highlights” @ Keep Smiling Gallery (London)

Whilst AM was in London last week, we bumped into Spanish artist and London resident Loreta Sáez Franco at the Frieze Art Fair. She told us of her solo exhibition opening in London this Thursday, October 21st and showed us some images of the work. “The Highlights” are bold colour compositions steeped in the traditions of abstraction and expressionism, and the exhibition also features a series of works the Central St Martins graduate calls her “wallpapers”. These pieces take the form of “The Highlights” artworks and […]

Openings: Know Hope – “There is Nothing Dear (There Is Too Much Dear)” @ Show & Tell Gallery

A couple weeks ago, the show we told you about, “There is Nothing Dear (There Is Too Much Dear)”, opened up in Toronto at the Show & Tell Gallery. The exhibition featured some beautiful works from Know Hope (some of his most complex ever we feel), as well as installations throughout the showspace. Take a look at more opening pics after the jump as well as the actual pieces here.

Releases: Aaron Horkey’s Retrospective Series Suite 2

Dropping in just a few days (October 25th to be exact) is the next installment in the ongoing Aaron Horkey / Deadarts Publishing Retrospective Series. A set of gorgeous letterpress prints, Horkey’s first suite (which was released a few months back) aimed to impress with every meticulous aspect of the release accounted for and the attention to detail going far above and beyond. Included in the previous suite was such finery as silkscreened COAs (almost a beautiful as the prints themselves), wax seals, embossing, gocco […]

Preview / Video: Tara McPherson – “The Bunny in the Moon” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be hosting Tara McPherson’s newest body of work this Saturday night when her solo show “The Bunny in the Moon” opens. Babelgum took time to stop by her studio leading up to the show and interview Tara about the new paintings. It’s pretty interesting hearing her talk about different sources of inspiration that come together to form one piece. Take a look at some teaser pics we have for you after the jump…

Beyond Eden ’10: Overview

For those of you who missed it, we have a photo summary of this year’s Beyond Eden Art Fair. We’ve highlighted certain aspects of the event already, but this will give you an overview of the type of art that was seen this year (like the Dabs Myla piece seen above). Over three thousand people attended the second annual fair that is the only one of it’s kind highlighting the so-called New Contemporary art movement, and hopefully next year, it will continue to grow and […]

Showing: Ai Weiwei – “Sunflower Seeds” Installation @ Tate Modern

Last week, we had the pleasure of making the journey out to the Tate Modern in London to experience Ai Weiwei’s latest installation. The contemporary artist from China worked with the village of Jingdezhen to individually mold and hand paint over 100 million ceramic “Sunflower Seeds” which lined the entry hall adjacent to main doors of the museum. Every person was invited to partake and interact with the “land of seeds”. It was a romp for many who jumped, ran, played, and even laid down […]
