Sketchbook: James Jean

By now, all AM readers should be familiar with James Jean (interviewed) mastery of the paintbrush, but did you know he does a pretty mean sketch as well? Every now and then, the LA-based Jean like to update his blog with his latest moleskin gems like the piece above entitled “Rust.” It’s always interesting to look at the details closely as these definitely seem to be more spontaneous compared to the planning that goes into his paintings. For those lucky enough to be at SDCC, […]

UK artist duo Best | Ever recently brought a selection of their work to London for a showcase entitled “The Delicacy of Passion”. The exhibition served as a teaser for a full scale solo show planned for this Autumn. The team of Hadley Newman and Neil Edward have been working together for the last year and a half after both honing their skills individually as artists and graffiti writers. For this show they created a heavily decorated setting for the work, applying their spray-can realism […]

Openings: Victor Reyes – “Misspelled” @ Robert Berman Gallery/E6

Letters – we’ve learned about them before we even enter kindergarten, practice writing them in school for years, and use them countless times everyday to communicate. They are vital to our lives, yet how many of us really take the time to examine, dissect, and improve upon their appearance? Even the most normally basic of forms want to be prettied up, admired, and told that they were beautiful and enriched your lives; show you things you’ve never considered before. Victor Reyes is acutely aware of […]

This year, the show featuring “contemporary visual art, street art, skateboarding, independent music, as well as underground comics and fanzine art from the last two decades” is set in the cradle of Brazilian street art, Sao Paulo, hoping to duplicate or exceed the 80,000 visitors that […]

Streets: Nick Walker – “Nutterfly” in NYC

Nick Walker (interviewed) spent the past two weeks in New York City hitting up various spots with his special brand of stencil magic. He invited AM along on some interactive action with the local urban landscape – some legal and some well … let’s just keep it on the downlow. Scouting the Chelsea/meatpacking district for “prime & available” real estate can be tad difficult at 3 pm in the afternoon, but after a few laps at the usual haunts, we stumbled across the classic mural […]

So, if you liked the show and would like a piece of the action, take a look at some print images after the jump and get in contact with the gallery.

SDCC ’10: Travis Louie – “Uncle Six-Eyes” Bust

So, it looks like that full “Uncle Six-Eyes” figure (covered here) that was in the works from Travis Louie (interviewed) has been converted to a bust. The prototype from Big Shot Toyworks can be seen at this year’s SDCC but that’s not the only thing Travis has in store for his fans. He will also be releasing a second volume of his postcard collection with Circus Posterus and will be revealing his design for their upcoming skelve figure at the booth. Of course, he will […]
