Streets: Banksy in NY

After a whirlwind tour (summarized here) of North America to promote his film, Banksy has finally reached the one city that has been conspicuously missing from his itinerary – New York, the so-called birthplace of modern graffiti. Strange that the visit does not coincide with the actual movie premiere in NY several weeks ago, but with two stencils that have been discovered so far, there are bound to be more so stay tuned. The one above is a clever variant of the piece Mr. B […]

Studio Visits: Tom French

Tom French is a young artist whose work we’ve been enjoying for a little while. A regular contributor to group shows in and around London and the UK, we saw Tom’s fantastic “Cowboy Balance” series of works available at Urban Angel recently and got in touch to go take a look at his work for ourselves at his studio up in Newcastle, UK. Tom works predominantly in charcoal, but also uses acrylic, spraypaint, gold leafing and collaged paper to bring his dazzling urban realism compositions […]

Extensive traveler and artist Charlie Isoe opened his show “Silver Spoons and Hotel Rooms” this weekend at the Rathbone Place location for Lazarides Gallery. This will be his first solo show UK exhibition and will run until June 23. Opening pics after the jump…

A full film is currently under production and should be released in the next few days. Time to get busy Timid! Check out some further pictures from Remi/Rough after the jump.

Openings: Yoshitomo Nara – “Ceramic Works” @ Tomio Koyama Gallery

Yoshitomo Nara unveiled a new series of works at Japan’s Tomio Koyama Gallery yesterday. As we mentioned earlier, Nara has been very busy honing his talents on this new medium for over a year at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park. The results of his hard work clearly showed in his 20 or so ceramic sculptures both large and small in scale. Of course, what would a Nara show be without some of his signature drawings. It’s very exciting when an artist explore a new medium outside […]

Openings: Matt Leines – “These Songs Are True” @ Guerrero Gallery

Guerrero Gallery held it down with a cool series of work from Matt Leines that showed in their space starting last week. Opening along side Alex Lukas (covered), Matt’s latest show “These Songs Are True” took us to his imagined world where cultural elements are mixed with pseudo historical references to create a society of crazy human-esqe characters. Colorful masks or faces stare back at you with geometric shapes and colors forming fascinating environments. Check it out after the jump.

After touring major museums in their home country (here, here, and here), the twins have set their sites on Portugal for their next museum exhibition, this time entitled Pra quem mora lá, o céu é lá’ (To who lives there, heaven is there). Seen above […]

Hopefully some of our readers took advantage because the show will be opening next Thursday, May 20th, at the Above Second Gallery (6-10pm).
