On Saturday night, AM attended the opening of “Rooms” at Scion Space (previewed). The show, curated by Roger Gastman, certainly brought us back to the old school days of youth. A wide array of nostalgic goodness such as Laser Tag, VHS lined living rooms, Michael Jordan & Dream Team posters, elementary school desks, bus stops, gothic throwbacks and even an outdoor street/play area were included. There was literally something for everyone to reminisce on. The artists: Adam Wallacavage, Bill Daniel, Chris Stain, Dan Monick & […]

AM swung by Culver City’s Scion Space as a large group of artists, namely Adam Wallacavage, Bill Daniel, Chris Stain, Dan Monick & Caitlin Reilly, Dueling VHS, Justin Van Hoy, Kime Buzzelli, and Rocky Grimes, were busy building out and setting up eight unique and different rooms throughout the massive space. Curated by Swindle Magazine and “Exit Through the Giftshop” producer Roger Gastman, “Rooms” seems to be a re-visitation of missing youth, an exploration into the minds, hearts, and backgrounds of each artist. Something exciting is coming to the UK in the month of May in the shape of “Art from the New World”, an exhibition organized and curated by Los Angeles based Corey Helford Gallery. The exhibit will show a snapshot of the blossoming American new contemporary scene that we at AM love so much and is to be held at the location of last year’s Banksy versus the Bristol Museum – The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. Have you ever wondered what the house of an artist who sculpts octopus chandeliers looks like? Well, if so, you are in luck because Hurley has done a video profile of Philly-based sculptor and photographer Adam Wallacavage. You may remember said octopus chandeliers from our article about his work with Tarino Tarantino or his documentation of ESPO’s “A Love Letter For You” project. Take a look as he talks about his work and shows everyone around his eclectic house. Discuss Adam Wallacavage here.
Fashion and art often intersect (Louis Vuitton x Murakami, Sprouse, and Hirst, Shu Uemura x Ai Yamaguchi, just to name a few) , so it comes as no surprise that we see Tarina Tarantino ask Adam Wallacavage to help her with the launch party of her new Sephora “Beauty Collection” set to be released in March. Looks like custom pink versions of Wallacavage signature octopus chandeliers were out in full force during the event. Take a look at more pics after the jump…
