This Thursday, May 31st, The Standard Hotel in Downtown LA will be unveiling The Vertical Gallery, a reference to their stairwell which has acted as canvas for a number of select artists. You may remember some photos that Futura sent us that we shared with you last month painted for Art Wynwood. That large painting, along with work from Retna, How & Nosm, DAZE, and Aiko was destined to be displayed at the Miami fair last weekend above as part of the flying murals of Wynwood project over the VIP lounge area. AM recently attended the wild premiere of F*CK Art, at New York’s Museum of Sex. As the bold title indicates, the group exhibition curated with the help of Mighty Tanaka aimed to pique the interest in both sex and art by pushing and melding the boundaries with the movement from the streets. You may remember last year when we told you about Aiko’s Lady Butterfly figure. The initial silver version drop on Valentine’s Day last year and subsequent black version release sold out rapidly, but in about an hour, this year’s V-day cherry version will be available here. Opening tonight in New York is a special group show put together by the Museum of Sex. This provocative showing features 20 street artists including Mode2, Aiko, Rostarr, Miss Van, and Lush as they occupy the building with works that further push the boundaries of their viewpoints of sexuality and relationships (some more subtle than others). Over the weekend, the Merry Karnowsky gallery held an impressive exhibition showcasing new work of four very talented female artists – Aiko, Deedee Cheriel, Lindsey Way and Tara Mcpherson. Each artist brought forth a unique collection of art that showcased their individual styles which had a completely different feel when compared to the next. Last weekend, the outdoor fields and indoor hanger Pima Art and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona were the venues for the hand-painted vintage planes of The Boneyard Project: Return Trip. This week’s world roundup of street work is heavily tilted towards Art Basel Week Miami. With so many artists in town, there was bound to be some overlap on walls and in some cases – collaborations.
