Streets: Andrew Schoultz (Los Angeles)

Working hard over the holidays, Andrew Schoultz brought some cheer recently to old Chinatown in Los Angeles with a new mural. Painted on the side of the Gregorio Escalante Gallery, the new piece features the all seeing eye that is commonly seen in the locally-based artist’s imagery among other signature motifs. Take a look at more detailed shots of the wall below along with some additional work-in-progress photos, but head by for a look yourself if you are in the area. Openings: “Major Work” @ Chandran Gallery

Earlier this month, Chandran Gallery in San Francisco opened a show curated by Andrew Schoultz entitled Major Work. The locally-based artist carefully selected a roster of participants that included himself, Alicia McCarthy, Aaron Noble, Kelsey Brookes, Revok, James Marshall (Dalek), Sam Friedman, Eric Yahnker, Mark Dean Veca, Saber, Hilary Pecis, Tim Biskup, Eric White, and Allison Schulnik. The premise behind the exhibition was for each artist to contribute a large-scale piece that they felt capture the essence of their work. The resulting show was quite stunning, as evidenced by […]

Basel Week Miami ’15 / Recap: KITH Homage

Another event that caught our attention during Basel Week Miami was KITH Homage, a group exhibition curated by Joshua Liner Gallery. To celebrate each of Ronnie Fieg’s previously (and soon to be) released Gel-Lyte III designs with Asics, 14 artists were asked to reinterpreted the founder of Kith NYC’s inspirations to create a piece for each of his past designs and for one future model. Participants in the pop-up show included Wayne White, Josh Sperling, Alfred Steiner, Greg Lamarche, Michael Kagan, Erin M. Riley, Evan Hecox, Riusuke Fukahori, Paul Wackers, Jim […]

Showing: “Invisible College” @ Fort Wayne Museum of Art

With this being the last week of the Invisible College group exhibition at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, now would be a good time for a recap. Co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman from the museum, the title references the fact that many of the artists on the roster didn’t take a traditional art education path to where their careers are now. The show will featured murals and installations from Andrew Schoultz, Brett Amory, Cyrcle, Mark Dean Veca, and Troy Lovegates as well as original works from Adam Caldwell, Adrian Falkner, Alex Yanes, Allison Sommers, Amanda Joseph, Andrew Hem, Brian M. […]

Openings: “Vitality and Verve” @ Long Beach Museum of Art

Leading up to the opening of the Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape exhibition last night at the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA), we had the opportunity for a preview look at some the murals being created (shared with you here & here). From what we saw, we were really excited to see the culmination of something historic and what we have never seen to this scale before with you – a museum exhibition featuring epic indoor murals from a strong roster of what is a mix of […]

Previews: “Vitality and Verve” @ Long Beach Museum of Art (Part II)

After sharing some initial photos of artists painting murals for the Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape exhibition opening June 26th at the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA), we now have some more shots for you from over the weekend. Put on in collaboration by Thinkspace Gallery, the people behind POW! WOW!, and LBMA, the show […]
