Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Andrew Schoultz (Part II)

After reporting on some in-progress photos of an two-sided epic mural by Andrew Schoultz for Primary Flight in Miami, we head back to get some completed shots. The walls were somewhat hidden from view, across from the ROA mural if you know where that is, but when seen in person, one can begin to imagine why it took 2 weeks to finish what with details like bricks each individually painted and custom curb stops. The amazing thing was this project was only one of many […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Mark Moore Gallery @ PULSE

One of our favorite booths this year during Art Basel Week in Miami was from the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles. Some of the works featured included the intricate wood works from Kenichi Yokono, the thick and textured paintings from Allison Schulnik (whose video we just shared with you yesterday), the kinetic stylings of Andrew Schoultz, the crowd shot watercolors from David Rathman, and the hyperrealistic portraits from Yigel Ozeri. More photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11: Andrew Schoultz Summary

Art Basel Week in Miami certainly has seen their fair share of Andrew Schoultz’s work with no less than five opportunities (six if you count his outdoor mural for Primary Flight) to admire the Bay Area artist’s work. Showing with Marx & Zavattero, Mark Moore Gallery (more on this booth later), Morgan Lehman Gallery, Jerome Zodo Contemporary, as well as selling out all 30 prints (seen above) of his gold American flags famously with Miami-based nonprofit organization Locust Projects, it certainly has been a busy and productive week […]

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Andrew Schoultz (Part i)

The San Francisco-based Andrew Schoultz is currently braving the heat in Miami working on a massive mural for Primary Flight that will take what sounds like over two weeks to complete. Seeing as this is only Day 6, fans heading over for Art Basel Week have much to look forward for when this insanely detailed and intricate wall is complete. While in town, make sure you stop by the Marx & Zavattero (site of Andrew’s solo in 2010) booth at PULSE to see some of […]

Texas artist collective Okay Mountain, who won the Pulse Prize at Pulse Miami in 2009 for their Corner Store installation, created a 12′ diameter white and grey wheel of fortune, similar to the one from the popular game […]

Openings: Andrew Schoultz & Paul Klee – “Images in Dialogue” @ SFMOMA

Just this Saturday, the SFMOMA hosted an intriguing posthumous dialogue between Swiss-born Modernist Paul Klee and the very much living Andrew Schoultz (previewed). Images in Dialogue featured new works from the SF-based Schoultz displayed side by side with Klee’s work with the former pieces created in response to the latter’s paintings. When Schoultz was first approached by SFMOMA curator, John Zarobell regarding the project, he was familiar with Klee’s work, but did not consider him direct influence. As he did more research, he was surprised […]

Teaser: Andrew Schoultz & Paul Klee – “Images in Dialogue” @ SFMOMA

This Saturday, August 13th in San Francisco, a unique exhibition is opening at the SFMOMA. How do you hold a conversation artistically with someone long dead? Andrew Schoultz will attempt just that by creating a visual dialogue across a century with drawings that are a response to the works of Swiss-born Modernist Paul Klee. Andrew sent over the images of a couple of the pieces that will be displayed along with Klee’s, so if it intrigues you, stop by for the opening. One more image […]
