One of the satellite fairs we always hit while in town for Basel Week Miami is the always intriguing emerging NADA art fair. The 14th edition the Pulse Art Fair returned to its oceanfront home at Indian Beach Park in Miami Beach this year, showing works selected by 70 international contemporary art galleries. Divided into two separate pavilions, the exhibitors either presented a selection of artists, had solo show booths, or were part of the Conversations program in which two artists were paired for this special concept. Basel Week Miami ’18 / First Look: Art Basel

This week, the art world congregated in Miami once again for Art Basel week. Taking center stage was of course the main fair featuring 200 of the world’s leading galleries displaying artworks by over 4,000 artists. Visitors were able to enjoy a wide range of works including paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and editioned works – here are just a few of the pieces that caught our eyes including a wall of Ai Weiwei fingers. Another show to check out at the Moniker International Art Fair in London is a solo from Kaili Smith at the Thinkspace Gallery booth. The new series of “Le Petit Prince” paintings from the Netherlands-born and Australia-raised artist deal with the issues of youth criminality through the lens of his experience hearing the famous childrens’ story from his French mother as a child. With the Frieze Art Fair opening in New York this week, AM made the trek out to Randall’s Island to see what the contemporary art world had to offer. Featuring 190 galleries from 30 countries and a new layout, the event certainly had something for all art lovers out there, no matter their taste. Basel Week HK ’18 / Showing: Yoshitomo Nara – “Ceramic Works and…” @ Pace Gallery

A couple days ago, during Basel Week Hong Kong, Pace Gallery inaugurated its second gallery in Hong Kong (12/F H Queen’s 80 Queen’s Road Central) with an exhibition by Yoshitomo Nara entitled Ceramic Works and… As the title suggests, the center of the new space was dominated by ceramic head sculptures from the Japanese artist, three dimensional representations of his instantly recognizable anime-inspired portraits. One of our personal favorites from this year’s Art Central was the solo showcase by Mike Lee at the Over The Influence’s booth. Simultaneously showing the NY-based artist’s Hong Kong debut along with a solo show by Tadashi Kawamata in their local space, the gallery presented a sold out exhibition at the fair that included some of the largest pieces Lee has ever produced.
