Videos / Basel Miami Week ’11: Marco Brambilla – “RPM” for Ferrari

As you may have guess, AM has already touched down in Miami for this year’s Art Basel Miami Week. We’ll start off our extensive on-site coverage of the biggest art party of the year with this new video, RPM, from Marco Brambilla (who worked on Kanye West’s Power video & and also created video montages for The Standard Hotel in NYC) that was commissioned by Ferrari for their latest auto masterpiece – the 458 Spider.  This new work from the NY-based artist is a “visceral, cubist […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Underbelly Show

Remember that secretive and unprecedented undertaking in New York last year entitled the Underbelly Project. Toiling four stories underground in an abandoned subway station in New York, over 100 artists invited by PAC and Workhouse left their mark on the space with murals and graffiti. Although the original “urban gallery” was sealed and unaccessible, this environment will be recreated in Miami for the Underbelly Show opening from Dec. 2 -5 (78 NW 25th Street in Miami, FL). Not only will the exhibition feature photos that documented […]

Videos: “Here Comes The Neighborhood”

If you have been following our articles leading up to Art Basel Miami Week, you will see that we have been covering all the action already taking place at Wynwood Walls (Part I, Part II, and Part II) as major street artist roll up to paint their murals. Now comes this trailer video for a new “docuseries” Here Comes The Neighborhood that explores the power of public art and its power to uplift and revitalize urban communities. This pilot focuses on Wynwood Wall and interviews […]

Streets: Wynwood Walls Update (Miami) Part III

Looks like Wynwood Walls is again the place to be for street art fans when Art Basel Week arrives in Miami next week. Adding to the impressive roster of artists we already covered in Part I and Part II, this newest update includes murals from Ukranian duo Interesni Kazki (who just opened a show in Los Angeles), How & Nosm (also with recent exhibition in LA), Sego, La Pandilla, and a wall used both Shep and ABOVE. More photos after the jump by Head8K…

Streets: Augustine Kofie & Matt W. Moore (San Francisco)

While in San Francisco for his solo show (covered), Augustine Kofie (featured) found time to collaborate with Matt W. Moore on a wall mural. Kofie’s abstract and geometric-based post-graffiti style melded well with Moore’s vector-based so-called retro graffiti aesthetic. For those who feel themselves gravitating towards this type of abstract street work and are interested in the continual evolvement of graffiti, you will have to pay attention to an upcoming event during Art Basel Week Miami. Kofie and Moore will part of a mural installation project entitled In […]

Streets: ABOVE – “It Takes Two To Tango” (Miami)

ABOVE (interviewed), whose contest for his new PASSPORT book is still ongoing here at AM, is continuing to hit up walls in Miami in preparation for his showing with White Walls at the SCOPE fair during Art Basel Week. As you can see, this new piece entitled It Takes Two To Tango, when taken in context with another mural we posted last week, shows the new themes he is working for this new exhibition. More photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11: Mark Ryden Preview

Another reason to hit up the major art fairs is the opportunities to see the new gems from Mark Ryden in person. For this year’s Miami rendition of Art Basel, the lowbrow painter will be bringing at least two originals with him to the party – Main Street USA (seen above) for the Michael Kohn booth (Booth K10) and Pinxit Jajo (seen after the jump) for the Paul Kasmin booth (Booth B14).

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Andrew Schoultz (Part i)

The San Francisco-based Andrew Schoultz is currently braving the heat in Miami working on a massive mural for Primary Flight that will take what sounds like over two weeks to complete. Seeing as this is only Day 6, fans heading over for Art Basel Week have much to look forward for when this insanely detailed and intricate wall is complete. While in town, make sure you stop by the Marx & Zavattero (site of Andrew’s solo in 2010) booth at PULSE to see some of […]

Publications: KAWS for Whitewall’s Winter Luxury Issue

For this year’s winter luxury issue, Whitewall invited KAWS to design the cover (in two versions). In addition to this collaboration on the front of the glossy, the magazine will publish a 12-page studio visit feature including an in-depth interview, portraits of the artist, images of his new work, and KAWS’ own sketches and blueprints of his sculptures and paintings. The new issues will be premiered at Art Basel Week Miami, but you can preorder them now here. Check out more preview images after the […]

FIAC Coverage

Following the Frieze week in London (covered here), AM headed off to Paris to visit the FIAC, the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain in Paris at the Grand Palais, host to 168 galleries. While Frieze focuses exclusively on contemporary art, the FIAC also combines early 20th century modern art with the contemporary. Of interest, Karl Lagerfeld designed the booth of Zurich’s Gallery Gmurzynska for the Rebels curated by Isabelle Bscher and featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein, Andy Warhol as well as Banksy and Scott Campbell.
