Streets: Faile Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

AM was recently onsite to bring you Faile breaking ground at the prominent Houston & Bowery mural (before they headed to London for their solo). As you saw in Part I, the basic foundation of the work was a ginormous collage featuring much of the classic imagery created by the collective (both new & old). In an effort to dodge the crazy weather and rain, the two Patrick’s worked morning to night without assistance to wheatpaste the base of their work. After day one, the efforts paid off […]

Streets: Faile Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part I)

Guess who’s next up to bat for the infamous NYC wall located at the corner of Houston & Bowery? The boys that form the Brooklyn collective known as Faile (featured) took their swing and made their home city proud with this new mural seen above. Following in the footsteps of urban heavyweights such as Kenny Scharf, Barry McGee, Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Keith Haring and most recently JR, the Patrick’s took this challenge head on. AM was invited to catch them hard at work creating the unique composition that features vintage […]

Streets: JR Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

Last week we first showed you the pics of the prominent Bowery & Houston mural completed by French artist JR. The famed photographer utilized the simple but enlarged image of Native American “DJ 2 Bears”. Of course, no man is an island. JR called in the help from some friends involved in the (Sioux) Standing Rock Nation project in the Dakotas to help finish wheat pasting the location. AM caught the crew hard at work on the streets of Manhattan. Check out the photos taken for […]

Streets: JR Mural on Bowery & Houston

As teased earlier, TED prize winning photographer JR recently hit up the legendary wall located on the corner of Houston & Bowery in New York. Following a string of prominent artists such as Kenny Scharf, Barry McGee, Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos & Keith Haring to grace the iconic location, JR puts his own spin as he furthers his Inside Out project with this latest wall. Earlier it was Women are Heroes, then we caught Wrinkles in the City, and now as JR explained to us […]

Streets: Kenny Scharf (New York)

The changing of the guards is in progress as the legendary mural space on the corner of Bowery & Houston in New York’s SoHo is set to undergo a new transformation under the spray cans of street legend Kenny Scharf. The iconic wall which housed the Haring tribute transitioned to Os Gemeos to Shepard Fairey to Barry McGee and now back full circle to Kenny Scharf who was a peer and friend to the late Keith Haring. AM caught up with Kenny at the spot […]

Streets: Dash Snow Tribute (New York)

It looks like the Barry McGee and Amaze mural on Houston & Bowery has been painted over with a giant fire extinguisher Sace Irak tag. If you want to check out this tribute to Dash Snow, you had better hurry as it sounds as though it will only be up for a day until a new winter mural goes up. More photos after the jump via Kathy Grayson.

Barry McGee Mural on Houston & Bowery Completed

As quickly as it started just after midnight of Monday morning, it ended. Barry McGee (aka Twist) and his friend/assistant Josh Lazcano (aka Amaze) worked throughout the night into the wee hours of the morning (definitely outlasting AM into the am…) to complete an amazing mural that will hopefully last long enough for the people of New York to enjoy. We went back to the spot to enjoy the fruits of Barry & Josh’s Labor basking in daylight on the iconic corner of Houston & Bowery. […]

Streets: Barry McGee (New York)

It looks like Barry McGee has begin his assault on New York by throwing up huge tags all over the mural space at the Houston and Bowery location we first told you about last week. Initially, this looks pretty similar to the wall he worked on in San Diego for the Viva La Revolucion show but we will be monitoring the site for any additional progress. More pics after the jump…

Teaser: Barry McGee Mural (New York)

So, observant street art fans in New York must have noticed by now that Shepard Fairey’s much vandalized “These Parties Disgust Me” mural (done in conjunction with his “May Day” show at Deitch) has been covered with the scaffolding below rebuilt. Although there has been some speculation the preserved Os Gemeos mural underneath would once again re-emerge at the Houston and Bowery location, what AM has confirmed may be even more exciting…  The site will be a new canvas for another street legend soon – […]

Setup: Shepard Fairey Mural – “These Parties Disgust Me” for Deitch Projects

AM was on hand to document the creation of Shepard Fairey’s (featured) latest outdoor project on the mural space hosted by Deitch Projects at the corner of Manhattan’s prime Houston & Bowery Street. As teased, the final product was true to the preview image which we first released. Armed with cans of spray paint, vats of wheat paste and a few “cherry pickers”, the Obey crew (Dan, Nick and Zee) braved the unexpected downpours to build this tremendous new mural. Check out our full coverage of their progress after the […]
