Previews: Booooooom x Thinkspace – “Seeing Red”

Coming up on March 30th, Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting a group show entitled Seeing Red. Curated by Booooooom founder and Vancouver-based artist Jeff Hamada, the exhibition features 12″ x 12″ works from artists who were asked to incorporate the color red. Like his previous projects from the Holiday series in Korea (covered) & Taiwan (covered), the reveal of KAWS’ large scale intervention in Hong Kong (covered) will include some associated merchandise. Featuring most prominently will be plush versions of the American artist’s signature Companion figure in the usual three colorways (brown, grey, and black). Stopping by the Great Park Neighborhoods planned development in Irvine, California recently, Sage Vaughn left an installation from his “Bouquet” series for residents to enjoy on the Art Walk of Cadence Park. The three dimensional representation of the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature wildflower imagery was made possible with the help of LeBasse Projects and was created with the thought that he always wanted to make garden sculptures that don’t take away from the nature around them, pieces you can look through as much as you look at. Continuing a project that has toured Asia starting last year in Korea (covered) which moved on to Taiwan (covered) earlier this year, KAWS will unveiling another large scale inflatable version of his Companion figure in Hong Kong on March 22nd. Last weekend, James Jean (interviewed) previewed a new stained glass work he has created in collaboration with Judson Studios. The large sculptural work is a followup to the pieces that were created for his exhibition in Tokyo last year (covered), and will be on display when the American artist’s solo Eternal Journey opens at the LOTTE Museum of Art in Seoul on April 4th.
