Earlier this week, the West 24th Street location of the Gagosian Gallery in New York opened a solo show from Jonas Wood featuring new paintings and works on paper. Streets: Nuart Aberdeen (Part II)

As we previously reported, for the third time in a row we’ve spent the Easter weekend taking part in Nuart Aberdeen‘s program while enjoying the new works created on the streets of sun-basked Aberdeen in Scotland. This year’s festival included 13 artists from around the globe, who added their signature marks to an already impressive collection of public art produced throughout the city. Fully aware of the risks of possible oversaturation with large murals, Nuart Festival director and curator, Martyn Reed, made sure the works did […]

Coachella’s Program of International Artist Installations

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, or more popularly referred to as Coachella, is known primarily for its music (and for some, the fashion choices of its guests). Festival-goers discuss and pore over the list of bands, DJs, singers, and other stage acts in determining how good Coachella will or will not be. However, almost as important in the actual experience of the Coachella weekend is the larger than life visual art and installations. This year’s new and returning featured artists include Sofia Enriquez (paisley sculptures), […]

Showing: Katrin Fridriks – ‘Grey Area’ @ JD Malat

Returning for her first London exhibition in three years, Katrin Fridriks is currently exhibiting a new body of work at JD Malat. The show, entitled Grey Area, consists of 30 works which both span a wide area of her existing practice and introduce new elements and techniques.   As a starting point for the exhibition, the Icelandic painter has taken inspiration from Nikola Tesla who sought to harness the world’s potential through an understanding of frequencies and vibrations, which were largely incomprehensible to people in […]

Case Studyo recently unveiled a collaboration they worked on with Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami entitled GOLDFISH GIRL. The resulting stool looks like it comes straight out of one of the renowned artist’s psychedelic paintings and features much of what makes Tanaami’s work so distinctive – a garish palette, surreal touches like the exposed frontal lobe, and a bold graphic style. Produced in a run of 12 + 3 AP’s, the now sold out 55 cm x 45 cm x 30 cm sculptural edition features meticulous woodworking & screen painting. […]

Some of this public art will be seen in photographs at the exhibition alongside […]

JR Transforms Louvre Pyramid Creating Optical Illusion

Returning to the Louvre almost three years after his debut groundbreaking installation (covered), JR (interviewed) has created another large scale optical illusion centered on the museum’s iconic glass pyramid designed by I.M. Pei and completed in 1989. Devised in honor of the structure’s 30th anniversary, the piece titled The Secret of the Great Pyramid required the help of 400 volunteers pasting 2000 strips of paper in the main courtyard. Lasting only one weekend, the ephemeral installation from French artist was able to make the pyramid appear to extend […]
