Videos: KAWS Companion Balloon (Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade) on Nowness

Last month, we shared with you a video shot in-studio with KAWS before his Companion Balloon hit the streets of New York for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Then AM headed over in person to check out the pre-parade preparations before the 41-foot-high version of the NY-based artist’s shy signature character took to the air. Now for those who missed it, NOWNESS has a new video (directed by Jake Sumner) out with footage of the inflatable drifting along the Upper West Side towards downtown Manhattan. Discuss KAWS […]

Basel Week Miami ’12: David Kordansky Gallery @ Art Basel

One of the galleries with the best and largest stables of  young artists that every collector keeps an eye out for every year at Art Basel Miami Beach is David Kordansky Gallery.  The Culver City, CA stalwart represented Los Angeles’ talked-about art scene to the fullest with great pieces by such coveted artists as Aaron Curry, Kathryn Andrews, Valentin Carron, and Mai-Thu Perret.  Andrews actually has a solo exhibition opening soon at the gallery, so this was a nice taste of things to come.  See […]

Tomorrow night in Denver, the David B. Smith Gallery will be exhibiting all new paintings from Southern California-based Laura Ball. Entitled Minotaur, the new watercolors continue to explore themes of the subconscious in her work, both positive and negative, through surrogates of delicately rendered natural creatures, which she often piles in clusters flowing into each other. While exploring the PULSE art fair (covered) in Miami, we came across several of the paintings that will be in the show. Take a look at some photos below, including […]

Here is an overview of what we saw, including these sculptures from Mark Mulroney (seen above), before we take you on some closer in-depth looks at some of the booths. Discuss Basel Week Miami here.

Consisting of 420 uniquely colored one inch dots, this piece required a mind-boggling four hundred and twenty […]
