The Beijing branch of Pace Gallery is currently showing a selection of new works from Chinese contemporary artist Yue Minjun. Exhibiting in his home city, the painter famous for his smiling self-portraits has included Christian iconography in this latest set of canvases as well as recent work leading the viewer to think about the role of Western influence in China. AM recently attended the opening of Brett Amory’s (interviewed) latest NY solo Dark Light (previewed) at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. This new series of paintings is a departure from Brett’s daytime series as the subjects are based in the still of night. However, Brett transitions his subjects and urban environments effortlessly into the emptiness of nocturnal darkness. The Obamas, who already have a fantastic art collection on display in the White House (including a Ben Eine piece), will be adding another great piece to their living quarters. Takashi Murakami fans are in for a real treat as Emmanuel Perrotin is currently holding a retrospective of the limited edition prints created by the founder of the Superflat movement. The space has on display 160 prints created between 2001 to 2011. We drooled over some of Murakami’s rarest prints to date including coveted gems such as 727’s, Tan Tan Bo, Homage to Francis Bacon, Golden DOB just to name a select few. Tonight in London, the StolenSpace Gallery will be holding their annual Summer Group Show. Featuring represented artists as well as a few new names to the roster, this exhibition will include all brand new works in varied media and size as well as new print releases from D*Face (interviewed) & Word To Mother (interviewed). Damien Hirst x Red Hot Chili Peppers – “I’m With You” Album Cover

Following the tradition of famous artists x musician album art collaborations, British blue chip artist Damien Hirst has been tapped to create the next cover for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The album entitled I’m With You is shown above. Not exactly a butterfly, but the fly will suffice to compliment his signature pharmaceutical subject matter. Thanks to Slamxhype for the image. This weekend at the MOCA, some of Andy Warhol’s most iconic work will be on display to the public. Campbell’s Soup Cans will be presented for the first time at the Los Angeles museum and is a celebration of the original exhibition at Ferus Gallery, his first solo showing all the way back in 1962. The world lost a true pioneer and iconoclast today as Gagosian Gallery announced the news of Cy Twombly’s passing. These usually don’t last long. James Jean (featured) has just released one of his sketches as a print here. The 9.5 x 12 inch limited edition is entitled Fungi III and is priced at $70 with a run of 100.
